VC Jyn Erso Review

Image
Now I know what some of you are going to say: why is Jyn Erso spooky?! Well, for VC fans in 2018 Jyn was warming many pegs because Wal Mart had just put her 3.75 inch Black Series figure on their incredible $4 clearance sale, and in some instances you could get the $4 Jyn and the $12 VC Jyn. Sporting 16 POA, Jyn as well as the Cassian Andor, Shoretrooper and Deathtrooper offered something new to SA 3.75 inch figures: thigh swivels. The ball socket hips, in addition to the thigh swivels enable Jyn to be posed in some neat action poses, and you don't have to worry about her holster inhibiting movement as it flows effortlessly with the right leg/hip. Jyn is also simply painted, but there are no smudges and everything looks clean, as it should. Accessory wise, Jyn has something her then 6 inch Black Series counterpart didn't have: add on pieces to turn her pistol into a sniper rifle. Her pistol (the one she stole on Yavin 4 before jetting to Jedha, pun intended) fits neatly into...

VC Supreme Leader Snoke

Image
In 2015's Episode 7, besides Kylo Ren the character who fascinated me the most was Supreme Leader Snoke. Who was he? Was he Darth Plaugeis? In 2017's Episode 8 well, he got killed off. What a waste. But surprisingly, he is not a bad figure. The 1st wave of the VC relaunch in April 2018 wasn't a great wave, but Snoke stood out anyway. Plus in keeping with spooky/scary theme for Halloween I thought now would be the time to cover the deformed and scarred Supreme Leader of the Empire, um, First Order. Right off the bat, Snoke has 16 POA, and fits in with all the modern (2018-present) VC figures. If he had the barbell neck joint and not a ball joint head he would have 17 POA. As you'll see in the photos he can be seated in the Throne Room in the BB-8 Playset which is what I use to shoot my photos. He wasn't exactly acrobatic in either of the 2 films he appeared in, but it is nice to have him look like he can sit in his throne, unlike the 5 POA version (which will also ...

Spooky Star Wars

Image
With Halloween being a day away, for a change up I wanted to look in on when Star Wars went supernatural. And there really isn't that many times that they did. A novel, a few characters who have unnatural abilities, that's it. Another thought was to do a fan fiction type thing but, no. Of course the scariest Star Wars has been is the entire sequel trilogy, and I don't need to go over that. Not many current Canon stories are "scary". Well I mentioned some but won't do it again. The closest thing in Disney Canon to supernatural is Darth Momin's and Exim Panshard's maks which possessed whoever wore them, bringing those long dead individuals back from the dead, but in time killing the host. But in Legends there are several so this will be Star Wars Legends appreciation post! With a little Disney Canon stuff thrown in. SCARY LEGENDS NOVELS 1. Galaxy of Fear. These young adult books aren't in print anymore but were similar to the Goosebumps series of...

POTF Kenner Endor Luke Skywalker

Image
If you're reading this, you know how my favorite character in Star Wars is Luke Skywalker. And, if they make a figure of him, I usually buy one. But sometimes.....I wonder why I did!? Which is how I felt when I bought a loose and incomplete Endor Luke. Luke comes with a poncho, a belt and the same Skiff Guard blaster his Jabba's Palace version did. But, this figure does NOT come with a lightsaber (the theory is that the POTF R2-D2 that has the pop up lightsaber would be the one parents would buy along with this Luke. Even though R2 doesn't hold Luke's lightsaber on Endor). But that actually isn't bad. The bad? The helmet on Luke is molded on! Leia came with a removable helmet. Luke? Nope. Luke sports the typical 5 POA of the Kenner days. But what truly separates this Luke from the Jabba's Palace version is that he wears the outfit that he duels Vader on the Second Death Star. The paint apps are all black, so there weren't a lot of detail to make this figu...

VC Deathwatch Mandalorian & Axe Woves Review

Image
Mandalorians sell! Which is why the VC is partially doing well in sales, especially from The Mandalorian series. Strangely Hasbro went an exclusive route with Axe Woves, as they did for Koska Reeves. Which surprised me, but he had a small role so I guess Hasbro didn't think he merited a general release. Axe shares the same buck as the Mandalorian Death Watch Trooper so I will also present it here since they are the same figure, aside from paint, and Axe having a removable helmet while DW Mando doesn't have a removable helmet, or unhelmeted head. First up is the Death Watch Mandalorian, who will have the same articulation as Axe Woves. DW Mando has 17 POA, and has absolutely no issues with mobility. I'll put him in some fun action style poses in the photos below to show off his articulation. He is also well painted, and on mine (5, 1 was given to me as a 'Thank You' for helping someone out) I have no smears or smudges. He has 2 white marks on his chest and right a...

Star Wars Disney Report Card

In October of 2012, I came home and got on social media and found out that not only had George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, but that the long awaited Episode 7 would be coming in December of 2015! To say I was excited was an understatement! Well, aside from Han dying in Episode 7 it wasn't that bad, but what came after that, well, I don't like talking about it. But what this meant was that the books and comics that had come out were now moved under the Legends banner as Disney set on a new course for Star Wars. New comics, books and of course movies! But one thing was for certain, everything we had known since 1991 was over. So now it has been 10 years. What is better, what is worse? Contrary to some people, there have been some good things with Disney Star Wars. I'll give letter grades at the end of the topics. I'll be talking about novels, comics, movies, TV shows and merchandise. NOVELS If there is a strong point to Disney Star Wars it has been the novels. One...

The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary VC Wish List

This year, next year and the year after are significant anniversary years for Hasbro. Heck, so is 2025 (Revenge of the Sith's 20th Anniversary, and some say that is the best film in the Saga). I've done the AOTC & ROTJ anniversary ideas Hasbro can do for the VC, but since it takes 18 months to plan toylines, I thought I'd share what I would like Hasbro to do for the 25th Anniversary of Episode I The Phantom Menace. The Sixers will get the good stuff, but the Vintage Collection needs some love as well. And by all accounts it seems Hasbro is giving the 40th anniversary of ROTJ some VC love. But silver anniversaries are ones Hasbro should go all out for! BASIC FIGURES 1. Qui-Gon Jinn. This should be a newly tooled figure. A Qui-Gon buck could be re-used for other tall Jedi (think a Tales of the Jedi era Dooku and Padawan Qui-Gon figure as well, even a Mace Windu could share this buck). He needs his robe, unlit lightsaber hilt and lightsaber. Besides with the new ball jo...

VC Koska Reeves

Image
What's more popular than a male Mandalorian? Well, a female Mandalorian! Although in this case it's easier to find Koska Reeves than it is to find Bo Katan. Koska is a retail exclusive to Target, and her figure quickly went to clearance (as well as Migs Mayfield) as Target needs October to get space set up for Christmas shopping, or products that are delayed for logistical reasons. But appearances can be deceiving, just because this figure can be found at clearance prices doesn't mean it is a bad figure, but I do have a gripe. On the figure itself, no gripe at all. As with the Black Series version, she shares Bo Katan's (Star)buck [had to do a BSG pun]. But unlike the Black Series version, it looks more like actress Mercedes Varnado aka former WWE star Sasha Banks. The head sculpt is what really sells this figure. Hasbro has done a much better job on headsculpts on new figures for the last 2-3 years and this is no exception. Mercedes/Sasha has a Mini Me with this figu...

VC Migs Mayfield Review

Image
Did anyone who watched Bill Burr's stand up routines ever think he'd be in a Star Wars project? My first time seeing him was on Chappelle Show in the Samuel Jackson beer commercial (parody photo in the review). Now, he gets his 1st ever action figure in an Imperial Tank Driver disguise. Migs has 17 POA, but he has the old ball socket hip joints, as this figure is kitbashed primarily with the Shoretrooper and Hovertank Driver. Getting him to fit in a tank is a pain in the @$$ so don't try doing that. He is neatly painted, and some early figures have an incorrectly painted right arm band. On mine it's red, but it's supposed to be green. Hasbro did fix this so later figures have the correct color. But the paint apps are clean, so it isn't sloppy looking. But the star is the head sculpt! It looks EXACTLY like Bill Burr! There are only 2 accessories: a removable helmet which fits well over his head, but it does look a bit out of scale. He also comes with a blaster...

The Vocal Crowd (TVC Collector's)

Image
Hasbro did a livestream Q&A and needless to say the Vintage Collection collector's and fan sites have, well, take it away Dana Carvey: And rightly so. Now, in the BanthaSkull Q&A Chris & Jing revealed that items like playsets and vehicles play into the tooling budget for the VC which is something that many have speculated but now got it confirmed. Chris from BanthaSkull (no relation to Chris at Hasbro) started off the Q&A with a hard hitting question right off the bat. Tim AKA Bossk's Bounty was also in the Q&A and threw another hard question at the Hasbro team. Chris asked (summarized) about why the VC has to "give up a figure to get a certain figure made". An excellent question. Tim, aka Bossk's Bounty (summarized) asked that if the 3.75 is what Hasbro calls a world building line, than why does the Black Series have world building figures from Andor first (Mon Mothma, Imperial officer, Cassian in disguise)? Another excellent question. The ...

Fennec Shand VC Review

Image
If you aren't familiar with actress Ming-Na Wen, besides being the voice of Mulan and playing on shows like Agent of SHIELD & ER, she is a massive Star Wars fan, and has been for a long time! Her casting as Fennec Shand in both live action (Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett) and animation (Bad Batch) has allowed this incredible actress a chance to show off her acting chops in the Star Wars universe. And she finally has her dream come true: she can literally say she is finally a Star Wars action figure! Fennec Shand as an action figure is an incredibly well made action figure. Sporting a unique cloth skirt, 17 POA and a swappable helmeted head she literally has it all! Her other accessories are her sniper rifle, blaster rifle & bottle of booze. So when you get the Boba Fett Throne Room set, you can re-enact the moment she and Boba take over Jabba's Palace. While I haven't tried it, her ponytail is removable but I don't have the courage to do so. Her ponytail can f...
