Spooky Star Wars
With Halloween being a day away, for a change up I wanted to look in on when Star Wars went supernatural. And there really isn't that many times that they did. A novel, a few characters who have unnatural abilities, that's it. Another thought was to do a fan fiction type thing but, no. Of course the scariest Star Wars has been is the entire sequel trilogy, and I don't need to go over that.
Not many current Canon stories are "scary". Well I mentioned some but won't do it again. The closest thing in Disney Canon to supernatural is Darth Momin's and Exim Panshard's maks which possessed whoever wore them, bringing those long dead individuals back from the dead, but in time killing the host. But in Legends there are several so this will be Star Wars Legends appreciation post! With a little Disney Canon stuff thrown in.
SCARY LEGENDS NOVELS
1. Galaxy of Fear. These young adult books aren't in print anymore but were similar to the Goosebumps series of novels. Zak Arranda and his sister Tash travel with their shape shifting "Uncle" Hoole who adopts the Alderaanian children after their parents died. They would deal with some wild stuff, such as a planets local worm life using corpses as hosts to carry out some insidious plans. They meet Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in their adventures. Local libraries may be your best bet in finding these books. Keep in mind these are more geared for kids than adults so kids would like this more.
2. Death Troopers. This novel is more adult, and has a similar plot to the movie/comic book Virus. Han & Chewbacca are also in on the action as they are stuck on a Star Destroyer full of zombies. We know Han & Chewbacca survive but the tension is which of the other characters survive. But these aren't the brainless zombies seen in movies. Think 28 Days Later zombies. Yeah. They learn from their mistakes and adapt. The secondary characters take center stage as Han & Chewie are the side characters here but it has a few neat twists, and is a fun read. Now imagine if Darth Plaugeis had been able to use the zombie formula on himself...he would have been unstoppable!
3. Riptide. The title doesn't sound scary, but this book is a story about cloning gone horribly wrong. Jedi Knight Jaden Korr encounters clones of Kyle Katarn and Lumiya while Jaden goes through a struggle of his own. This book has a feel like The Sixth Sense, especially for one of the characters. The crazy clones aren't exactly a horror story (see Master C'baoth from the Thrawn Trilogy), but the clones abilities using the Force make for some tense moments.
LEGENDS SPOOKY CHARACTERS
These characters have some supernatural abilities, such as possession and coming back from the dead. With so many characters to choose from (no lie, Legends was really fleshed out) I'll go with 5. And no, Palpy won't be one of them, although he did try to possess Anakin Solo and used clones to come back to life until his death on Onderon in Empire's End.
5. Callista Ming. Possession is her frightening power! Callista possessed the gun battery computers on The Eye of Palaptine space station in a sabotage attempt. Callista would meet and fall in love with Luke Skywalker who had to destroy the Eye to prevent the Empire from taking it over. Callista would then possess the body of one of Luke's students, Cray Mingla so she could live a happy life with Luke Skywalker, but her transition meant she lost her ability to use the Force, except for the dark side. Callista would meet her end with the top person on this list.
4. Cronal. Possession is his game too, well most of these characters possess in one way or another. He was the man of many names in Legends: Blackhole, Shadowspawn, Perek, are just a few of his aliases. He would die on Mindor, only to be resurrected again and would die a final time 15 years after A New Hope as a computer virus and Luke Skywalker's innovative use of the Force put an end to Cronal.
3. Darth Nihlus. This Sith Lord is the closest thing to a Vampire in Legends. Instead of blood, he consumed the Force, literally sucking it out of people, and planets. Nihlus grew so powerful he was able to imbue his spirit into his mask and armor after he died. Nobody in Legends ever found and put his mask and armor on to channel his power. Missed opportunity! Maybe I need to make a FanFic about that happening.
2. Tenebrae. Another video game character, but a dark side entity that grew more powerful over the years. This terror is best known as Darth Vitiate and Valkorion the Emperor of the Eternal Empire. He would last for over 1500 years! His possession of bodies to carry out his will and his Force powers were beyond measure. But like the others listed, Tenebrae, Vitiate and Valkorion would be taken down. Unlike the top character.
1. Abeloth. This is one scary broad. Abeloth was the mortal caretaker of the Father, Son & Daughter entities, but would drink from the fountain which fueled their immortality. It made her immortal, but unfortunately for her it created a side effect that made her completely hideous, as you'll see in her picture. Abeloth would be defeated when Centerpoint Station was built, as well as planets in the Corellian System would trap her in the Kessel Maw. But during the 2nd Galactic Civil War Jedi refugees hiding in the Maw were driven insane as Abeloth awakened after Centerpoint Station was destroyed. To take Abeloth down, the Jedi led by Luke & Ben Skywalker along with the Sith lead by Darth Krayt were able to subdue, but not kill Abeloth. Now here's her picture to give you nightmares. Happy Halloween!!
