POTF Kenner Endor Luke Skywalker
If you're reading this, you know how my favorite character in Star Wars is Luke Skywalker. And, if they make a figure of him, I usually buy one. But sometimes.....I wonder why I did!? Which is how I felt when I bought a loose and incomplete Endor Luke.
Luke comes with a poncho, a belt and the same Skiff Guard blaster his Jabba's Palace version did. But, this figure does NOT come with a lightsaber (the theory is that the POTF R2-D2 that has the pop up lightsaber would be the one parents would buy along with this Luke. Even though R2 doesn't hold Luke's lightsaber on Endor). But that actually isn't bad. The bad? The helmet on Luke is molded on! Leia came with a removable helmet. Luke? Nope.
Luke sports the typical 5 POA of the Kenner days. But what truly separates this Luke from the Jabba's Palace version is that he wears the outfit that he duels Vader on the Second Death Star. The paint apps are all black, so there weren't a lot of detail to make this figure. But Kenner going cheap here (in 1985 when this figure came out the line was dying out, especially with no new movies) blows.
Hasbro in 2021 did a new Endor Luke (which I recently acquired) and did the same thing! In 2006 Hasbro released an Endor Luke with a removable helmet, and the same in 2010 except this time Luke came with a removable cloth vest underneath his poncho. So if you want a good modern update to this figure, get the 2006 or 2010 Endor Battle Pack Luke.
As I said, I got a loose and incomplete one as you'll see below (writer's note, opting to show my Kenner one when I review the VC Endor Luke). The goal is to do a head swap with a spare Kenner Jabba's Palace Luke but I haven't had the heart to do it! It just would hurt me to take apart a Luke and swap on an awful helmeted head on that one. As you can see my dilemma is real. Now is this Luke essential for your collection? No. But if you see a custom Luke without a helmeted head, then that one would be. From the neck down this figure is a winner. But the neck up makes this one my least favorite Kenner figure. Pictures from Galactic Figures and eBay with the last one from my collection. Prices on eBay run (loose) $79-$400 and the higher prices are for complete accessories with the low price being incomplete. And with recent news of an additional Retro Wave in 2023 (maybe not POTF figures but from the Ahsoka series) there might be a chance Hasbro could correct a mistake Kenner made in 1984. 1 & 2 From Galactic Figures a view of Endor Luke with all his accessories. He comes with a poncho, belt and blaster.
3. Endor Luke without the poncho.
4 & 5. Had to verify these coins came from the time period (1984-85). There are a lot of people passing off the 1997-98 Millennium Minted Coins as POTF coins. The 1997 versions are golden in color.
