VC Yoda (Empire Strikes Back)

Image
One of the greatest minds of the 20th century said it best: "I saw the little runt sitting there on a log I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda" Y O D A, Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda" That of course is from Weird Al Yankovic's immortal "Yoda" . Well, I needed to punch up this review a little bit. See, this isn't a truly definitive Yoda, but it's the best we'll get. Now, if you got the Target exclusive Cave of Evil 3 pack, you might want to skip on this. But if you collect Kenner style cards, you likely want or have this. Now Yoda isn't all bad. Especially compared to the awful 3.75 Black Series version. He is an update of the VC ROTS Yoda, except with a more accurate head sculpt to show him from The Empire Strikes Back. He has 12 POA (the 3.75 Black Series was 5 POA). From a sculpt and paint app point, Yoda is quite good. No smears or smudges. He has swivel elbows, but his head, shoulders, hips, wrists, waist, knees an...

The Best Of Luke Skywalker

Image
If you read my blog, you should know my favorite Star Wars character is Luke Skywalker. And also, today, September 25th is Mark Hamill's birthday, and of course he played Luke Skywalker. If you ever start collecting Star Wars toys, or if you already do, then you need to have Luke Skywalker action figures. But what are the best ones? Well, that is hard to decide. I would be biased if I said they are all good (they aren't). I'll also include some books I recommend that feature the best of what Luke has to offer. BEST KENNER FIGURE Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker. While I'll do a more in depth review next year on this figure, if there is only 1 Kenner figure you get, this is the one to get. Besides, Hasbro is remaking it for next year. So what are you waiting for?! Preorder it when it becomes available!! BEST POTF2 FIGURE Bespin Luke. Oh, you thought I'd go Jedi Luke again didn't you?! This figure gives us a more realistic Luke in an era where his previous figures...

VC Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi)

Image
I love the Vintage Collection, most of my posts are about it. But sometimes, not often, a highly anticipated figure misses the mark. See Crait Luke Skywalker, and the standard release Imperial Gunner from Rogue One. Sadly, this figure is one that misses the mark. But it isn't all bad, as it does have the best ever head sculpt of Ewan McGregor ever put on a Hasbro figure (notice I didn't say ever, SH Figuarts has the distinction of having the best ever Ewan head sculpt). Now he has the new standard of super articulation (17 POA) and with the new ball jointed hips putting him in action poses is easy, despite the vinyl "skirt". Fortunately on my sample as you'll see in the photos, the paint apps are well done and clean. Also check out the head sculpt, am I right about it or what?! Amazing! No tight joints either, they move well and I never felt as if I'd break the figure moving it. But there is a problem: the upper body joint (which makes it look like he's ...

They Haven't Made These VC Figures?!

With nearly 250 figures in the Vintage Collection, and 9 movies, a handful of TV series you'd think by now that there would be what fans and collectors say are definitive versions of this character, or that character, but no. In fact, some figures on this list have YET to be made into an action figure in the Vintage Collection. Some of these figures have 5 POA versions, but those don't really fit in with SA 3.75 inch figures. Now there are some obvious ones (Han, Luke, Leia & Ben Kenobi from ANH stand out), but I'm talking important characters across the Saga, and in certain Trilogies. What's even more upsetting is the Black Series already have these characters (so when is R2-D2 coming to the Archive? No ROTJ release either?! 🤬). So here are the figures yet to have a definitive version in the Vintage Collection: 5. Padme Amidala (Tatooine Funeral Attack of the Clones) Padme has a 6 inch version of how she was at Shmi's funeral, or factory chase on Geonosis. ...

Retro Cara Dune Review

Image
Back in the 1980's Kenner only made 2 female figures. Leia Organa, and Kea Moll from Droids. When Hasbro started making Kenner style figures, and would be doing figures based off The Mandalorian. Well, it was easy to assume that Alderaanian Cara Dune would get a Kenner style figure, and of course she did. This is of course a simple articulated figure. But upon further inspection you can see that a lot of detail went into making this figure look like it came from 1985. The details on her belt, and on the rest of her outfit are very well done. She even has good details on her wrist braces, and on her boots.  I don't think this level of detail could have been pulled off in 1985. It would probably be just another paint app, or ignored completely. The head sculpt is actually good. I mean, even the ROTJ Luke bears a resemblance to Mark Hamill. This figure does resemble Gina Carano. The paint applications are well done, even on her forearm tattoos, and the rest of her outfit. Cara...

VC Reva (Kenobi) Review

Image
Before I get into the review I am not talking about the character, or the actress who plays Reva (who is a good actress, BTW) but only about the action figure. Reva was one of the first new characters revealed by Disney and Hasbro has been quick to make the main antagonist in the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries into action figure form in all varieties at once. Only Obi-Wan and Vader have that other distinction from the miniseries. So what about Reva's action figure? Well, it is one of the best action figures Hasbro has done this year, and could easily be in my all time VC Top Ten (which I may have to alter after this year). Reva is one of the best sculpted figures head to toe, and it goes without saying that if Hasbro were to offer a Gaming Greats Second Sister or a Seventh Sister that Hasbro could reuse this buck to offer those figures. She has 17 POA, including the barbell neck joint and the new ball jointed hips which offer easier movement so she could actually fit in a TIE Fighter ...
