Retro Cara Dune Review
Back in the 1980's Kenner only made 2 female figures. Leia Organa, and Kea Moll from Droids. When Hasbro started making Kenner style figures, and would be doing figures based off The Mandalorian. Well, it was easy to assume that Alderaanian Cara Dune would get a Kenner style figure, and of course she did.
This is of course a simple articulated figure. But upon further inspection you can see that a lot of detail went into making this figure look like it came from 1985. The details on her belt, and on the rest of her outfit are very well done. She even has good details on her wrist braces, and on her boots. I don't think this level of detail could have been pulled off in 1985. It would probably be just another paint app, or ignored completely.
The head sculpt is actually good. I mean, even the ROTJ Luke bears a resemblance to Mark Hamill. This figure does resemble Gina Carano. The paint applications are well done, even on her forearm tattoos, and the rest of her outfit. Cara comes with 2 accessories: her pistol and long rifle. Now her pistol can't fit into her holster so you'll need to keep that in a bag, or leave in her hand if displaying loose. Fortunately both weapons can fit in either hand, although her right hand is better for holding either weapon.
Now is Cara essential for any Retro Collection? Only if you're a fan of The Mandalorian. But also take into account Kenner back then only made 2 female action figures, so you might want to get this figure if possible. Hopefully they remake all Cara Dune figures one day, but this is a good figure to get. If they ever make a Retro Koska Reeves and Fennec Shand you could recreate their cool scene from the 2nd season finale of The Mandalorian. Images from Galactic Figures.
