They Haven't Made These VC Figures?!
With nearly 250 figures in the Vintage Collection, and 9 movies, a handful of TV series you'd think by now that there would be what fans and collectors say are definitive versions of this character, or that character, but no. In fact, some figures on this list have YET to be made into an action figure in the Vintage Collection. Some of these figures have 5 POA versions, but those don't really fit in with SA 3.75 inch figures. Now there are some obvious ones (Han, Luke, Leia & Ben Kenobi from ANH stand out), but I'm talking important characters across the Saga, and in certain Trilogies. What's even more upsetting is the Black Series already have these characters (so when is R2-D2 coming to the Archive? No ROTJ release either?! 🤬). So here are the figures yet to have a definitive version in the Vintage Collection:
5. Padme Amidala (Tatooine Funeral Attack of the Clones)
Padme has a 6 inch version of how she was at Shmi's funeral, or factory chase on Geonosis. This is her signature look, until her outfit gets ripped by the Nexu and shows off her abs and naval. While I doubt Disney would allow her to be released as a scantily clad toy (also why you won't ever see Oola or Slave Leia ever again), this is a safe figure. Make sure her blaster fits in her holster and she comes with her shawl. She should have been in the VC for AOTC 20th Anniversary.
4. General Leia Organa (Resistance Base, The Force Awakens).
We got a Resistance Base Leia for the 3.75 Black Series, but it was basically Joan Crawford in a blue dress. Leia in her General outfit is a popular VC request. Look, I hate the Disney Trilogy but this is a figure I would buy, even if I did a head swap with a younger Leia. But with Hasbro utilizing photo real technology for headsculpts this could be an amazing figure. Went with this over Endor Leia because Endor Leia has a carded release and for Leia's poll in the countdown I stuck with a figure we have yet to get.
3. C-3PO (Return of the Jedi)
If there is any figure that disappoints collectors, it's Threepio. His previous VC outings have been awful. But with Return of the Jedi turning 40 next year it's time C-3PO got in on the action! Use the Build-A-Droid Protocol Droid buck and paint him all gold. Add the Ewok Throne and make him a deluxe figure! As a bonus his limbs would be removable so he could also be properly put on a new Empire Strikes Back card as well!
2. R2-D2 (Return of the Jedi)
Yes we got R2 on a Jedi card, but it is a bad figure. Plus it got repacked on a Droids card for Target/EE. Hasbro took the Build-A-Droid astromech buck and made a decent R2 on a Star Wars card in 2019. Take that R2, give him the serving tray and an open chest hatch and way to store Luke's lightsaber hilt without restricting his head movement and then we have a definitive R2.
1. Count Dooku (Attack of the Clones)
Another figure that should have come out already for 2022, the fact that the VC has no Count Dooku is appalling. We have Obi-Wan and finally Anakin. Yet they have nobody to duel. Hasbro doesn't make enough villains. He needs his cape, lightsaber and unlit hilt. And they could make an awesome Christopher Lee headsculpt too!
Honorable Mention
Rogue One characters. RO is one of the best Star Wars movies made and leads directly into A New Hope. Yet we only have Jyn, Cassian (both could use updated or brand new head sculpts) & K2-SO. But while I would add Saw Gerrara to the list I think we'll get him in Andor. This deserves a category by itself but also since I only have time for 1 post this Sunday I need to stretch this one out a bit. But here's who is missing:
1. Director Orson Krennic. My biggest complaint with Hasbro in the Disney era is lack of villains. Sure we have troops, but nobody to command them. With Piett coming next year, I hope that Krennic, and Tarkin (who needs an update) get made.
2. Baze Malbus. We have Chirrut Imwe, but without Baze he is incomplete. It's like having Batman without Nightwing (Dick Grayson) or Robin (Tim Drake). Baze would probably be a deluxe figure because of his weapon but that's fine with me. I've been tempted to buy the SA custom version of the 5 POA figure for a while now, but even at $21-$28 this would be the cheaper option.
3. Bodhi Rook. I only saw this 5 POA figure when I was in NYC and no other stores since then, save for eBay. But the crew needs their pilot, and Bodhi is essential to the story. His Black Series figure looks amazing, and they could shrink that down to VC easily. His backpack accessory from the 5 POA figure could be included as well.
4. Scarif Rebel Trooper. This could be a repaint of the Endor Rebel Commando. Better yet, since there is a Shoretrooper pack, a Scarif Rebel Trooper pack could mix in a few named characters to go against your Shoretrooper and Darktrooper armies.
So there you have it, Hasbro. Want to make some money? Get started on these!! ASAP!
