Kenner AT-AT Commander/General Veers

Image
If you grew up in the 1980's, and you had the luxury of getting the AT-AT walker for your birthday, Christmas or getting straight A's on your report card, you needed the driver, or drivers. But, the drones need a boss, and that's where General Veers comes in. Oh, well actually it's the AT-AT Commander. But it's General Veers. There is a story behind this. And as you'll see in a future review, Veers isn't going away. Like all figures of this era, the sculpt, paint and articulation is very simple. He comes with oddly enough a Rebel blaster pistol, which is also the common weapon of the Bespin Guards as well. While this figure is ideally in the AT-AT Walker, a friend of mine had the idea of making him a squad leader, commanding Stormtroopers into battle. In future Star Wars content, officers would wear similar gear leading forces into ground battles. But this figure also has an interesting side story. A Canadian company offered figures through a mail in offe...

AOTC 20th Anniversary: Bultar Swan Character Review

Image
The Battle of Geonosis was the first time we saw a large group of Jedi get into a fight. It is one of the best onscreen moments in the 6 Lucas Films, and there are a lot of them. But the obscure ones are the ones that fascinated me the most. With Obi-Wan, Anakin, Mace, Ki-Adi Mundi we knew a bit about them. Same with Luminara Undili and Barriss Offee thanks to the novel The Approaching Storm (which to me is still Canon as the world Ansion is where the novel takes place and Mace mentions Obi-Wan just returned from there). One such Jedi was Bultar Swan, who has developed a cult fandom following. In Legends, Bultar appeared in the Obi-Wan and Anakin young reader novels. She was trained by Micah Giiett until his death in the Stark Hyperspace War. After he died, Plo Koon took over her training and she became a Jedi Knight. On a mission with Obi-Wan, Anakin asked her about nightmares, and she dismissed his claim as she told him that Jedi did not have nightmares and that he should talk ...

VC Rebel Fleet Trooper Pack

Image
The Vintage Collection is finally offering something that they should have done years ago: troop builder packs. The first one offered was a Stormtrooper pack, which sadly used low quality plastic leading to some quickly "yellowing". But, often times when making a mistake, you learn something. Hasbro has shown that with the Rebel Fleet Trooper 4 pack! If you bought the Tantive IV Playset, it came with a repack of the original Rebel Fleet Trooper, with a slight change. Unfortunately if you bought multiple playsets you got what amounts to a new clone army. Same if you bought multiple Fleet Troopers when they originally came out. Clones. Here, Hasbro gives you 3 Fleet Troopers with different faces, head shapes and skin colors. Plus you get a "squad leader" in Captain Antilles! There is one other named figure but for the other 2 I'll dig into my Fan Canon and make up names and short back stories for them. The good news is they share the Rebel Fleet Trooper buck, so...

Custom Super Articulated 3.75 inch Throne Room Duel Rey

Image
I don't always buy from eBay sellers, however if you do make sure they have a 99-100% rating. I have bought from a couple people who make custom figures, and while I paid a fair price for them, I have had mixed results. One figure was okay, and held up. The other one, well, didn't hold up well. Not the creators fault. It had fallen from my display and was a bit more fragile than I initially thought. But buying customs is a great way to get characters you want if you can't make your own. If you know me, I don't like Episode 8 at all. It put me into a depression as Star Wars movies didn't thrill me anymore. Well the new ones. I learned to appreciate the older ones, that won't change. But as far as the character Rey goes, this was her best look. While we got a super articulated 3.75 inch action figure of her from Episode 7. Sadly for Episode 8 all we got was a 5 POA version of her. In my humble opinion, I really like this look for Rey. I had hoped she would show...

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Attack of the Clones

2022 marks the 20th Anniversary of Attack of the Clones. While it is, IMO the weakest film of the Lucas Saga, I'd rather watch that on a 48 hour loop than a second of the sequel trilogy. Okay, Disney bashing aside it's a big deal! This movie introduced Hayden Christensen in the role of Anakin Skywalker, the late, great Christopher Lee as Count Dooku, and we learn things about the Jedi Order we didn't really know before (such as Jedi not being allowed to love, or form attachments). But what it's really known for? Making Yoda an action star! Watching the midnight 1st showing and the audience cheering when this happened is one of my all time favorite movie experiences! What I won't cover are the toys. They sucked. The action features made them impossible to fit in vehicles, and well, parts broke easily. I almost quit collecting at this time. But what I will cover are some VC figures from AOTC, and a few wish lists to go with it. It took super articulation and technol...

Why Jedi Need Attachments

It's time to drop the spoiler embargo on The Book of Boba Fett. By now you know Luke Skywalker has met Ahsoka Tano, and has known of her for a while as they seemed comfortable together. You also know that Grogu has abandoned his Jedi training to re-unite with Din Djarin who now flies a modified Naboo Fighter, with Grogu taking the space meant for the droid, and is protected by a dome. Plus Grogu now wears a chain or armor made from the melted Beskar spear, so he will be safe from blaster fire and an enemy with a lightsaber. Luke made Grogu an offer, accept the Mandalorian's gift and end his training, or choose Yoda's lightsaber and stay. Well, Grogu made his choice. He chose who he had become attached to. Now, maybe Grogu comes back to Luke to continue or finish his training. Maybe he doesn't. But one thing that is clear is that despite internet and YouTube rumors all roads lead to the sequels. We know the mistakes Luke will make. He has his Jedi Order based off the G...

Han Solo & Chewbacca Issue 1 Spoiler Review

Marvel is finally doing a Han Solo monthly series, in the tradition of Darth Vader, who has long deserved one and Dr Aphra who some fans feel don't deserve one. But nevertheless, Han, along with Chewbacca are finally after all these years getting a new monthly series! So how is it? Format Not a big change. While the Dr Aphra series has gone away from the opening crawl, instead showing a short paragraph and character head shots. While I do like that format, it breaks what Marvel started in 2015 opening every issue with an opening crawl. The opening crawl tradition started with Dark Empire, but only for the 1st part of the story. Also it's your standard 22 page story for $3.99. Art David Messina does the penciling and inking chores, and does an excellent job as always! He captures a younger Han Solo quite well. This is just after the time Solo A Star Wars Story took place, and the temptation to go with Alden/Han is there but instead it's young Harrison Ford. Chewbacca is...

In Memoriam Alan Ladd Jr & Tom Veitch

With Star Wars being a 45 year old franchise, over time many of the people who worked and acted on the movies have passed away. But the 2 most recent ones to pass away had a huge impact on Star Wars. Alan Ladd, Jr and writer Tom Veitch. While Mr Ladd's passing was well known, Mr Veitch's passing was around the same time as Mr Ladd's. Alan Ladd, Jr has more to do with Star Wars because he was the ONLY person who supported George Lucas in his vision of a space saga. If he hadn't green lighted the project, both George Lucas and 20th Century Fox wouldn't have made a boat load of money. But this would also cost Ladd his job at 20th Century Fox. Because Star Wars became a huge success, Fox missed out on merchandising cash and input on the direction of the sequels. He was also the executive who supported Mel Brooks when he wanted to make Young Frankenstein in black and white. He had a long record of supporting the vision of film makers. He made Star Wars as much as Georg...
