Kenner AT-AT Commander/General Veers
If you grew up in the 1980's, and you had the luxury of getting the AT-AT walker for your birthday, Christmas or getting straight A's on your report card, you needed the driver, or drivers. But, the drones need a boss, and that's where General Veers comes in. Oh, well actually it's the AT-AT Commander. But it's General Veers. There is a story behind this. And as you'll see in a future review, Veers isn't going away.
Like all figures of this era, the sculpt, paint and articulation is very simple. He comes with oddly enough a Rebel blaster pistol, which is also the common weapon of the Bespin Guards as well. While this figure is ideally in the AT-AT Walker, a friend of mine had the idea of making him a squad leader, commanding Stormtroopers into battle. In future Star Wars content, officers would wear similar gear leading forces into ground battles.
But this figure also has an interesting side story. A Canadian company offered figures through a mail in offer, one was for General Veers. Now while Veers never appeared as Veers on a Kenner card, he was offered through the Canadian retailer. When Veers arrived, it was the AT-AT Commander laminated onto a card that read "The Empire Strikes Back" with General Veers on the name pill.
