VC Rebel Fleet Trooper Pack

The Vintage Collection is finally offering something that they should have done years ago: troop builder packs. The first one offered was a Stormtrooper pack, which sadly used low quality plastic leading to some quickly "yellowing". But, often times when making a mistake, you learn something. Hasbro has shown that with the Rebel Fleet Trooper 4 pack!

If you bought the Tantive IV Playset, it came with a repack of the original Rebel Fleet Trooper, with a slight change. Unfortunately if you bought multiple playsets you got what amounts to a new clone army. Same if you bought multiple Fleet Troopers when they originally came out. Clones. Here, Hasbro gives you 3 Fleet Troopers with different faces, head shapes and skin colors. Plus you get a "squad leader" in Captain Antilles! There is one other named figure but for the other 2 I'll dig into my Fan Canon and make up names and short back stories for them. The good news is they share the Rebel Fleet Trooper buck, so they all have 14 POA. I'll cover each figure individually and place a photo of all figures from the 3 pack plus the standard Rebel Fleet Trooper release at the bottom.

Captain Antilles

This figure cleverly has the same body as the standard Fleet Trooper but has an all new head sculpt plus a new vest/jacket as he wore on film. He also has a vertical stripe painted on his pants, this helps differentiate from the other Troopers. He comes with a removable helmet and blaster, but has no holster to carry it in. He can hold the blaster well in either hand. Unlike the original Captain Antilles figure he cannot really recreate the scene where Vader kills him. That figure had an extendable neck and his swivel elbows could wrap around Vader's arm. Still, this is a big improvement over the original! This 4 pack is worth getting for Captian Antilles alone, plus he can become a generic Rebel officer for any other background scene you have in your head to display.

Pello Scrambas

You will recognize this man as the 1st Rebel you see as the Empire boards, and he is also the 1st casualty. He's the older looking Rebel Trooper, and I was surprised to see this figure in the pack, and until prepping for this review didn't know he had an official name! He comes with a blaster, removable helmet and what I'll call an ankle ammo wrap that can fit on his right boot. All the troopers in this set have the same accessories so I won't cover those in reviewing the other 3 figures. But this is my shortest review since he is a named character already. The other 3 get names and a little back story. Time for a combo review and fan fiction!

Hugo Quarrie

Hugo was part of an ancient Aldeeranian group whose sole purpose was to protect the Royal Family of Alderaan. He was a Corporal in the Rebellion but carried in secret the rank of captain. An expert in hand to hand fighting, and an escape artist he would break out surviving Rebel prisoners from Vader's Star Destroyer and would rejoin the Alliance at Hoth. He would fight at Endor but sacrificed himself to save Leia Organa and Han Solo during the battle.

Good figure, great head sculpt. But one big problem: the helmet doesn't stay on. I may have to use double sided tape or some putty to keep it attached to his head. Maybe if he wasn't bald it would work better.

Kortez Chee

Kortez joined the Alliance after Mon Mothma's declaration of Rebellion. He proudly served the Alliance as a Trooper on the Tantive IV. Thanks to Hugo Quarrie, he would escape Vader's Star Destroyer and would eventually reach the rank of Major General in the New Republic army. Once the peace treaty with the Imperial Remnant was signed he worked with the Rangers of the Republic as a sector protectorate.

First of all, this head sculpt is amazing! Kortez is ready for battle, and has the expression on his face to show for it. Unlike the other figures, his helmet has the best fit (not as much effort to get it to stay), and he can hold his weapon well. I chose to give him the last name of Lucasfilm employee Leland Chee, who was the former online gatekeeper of Legends Canon.

Albus Morel

Albus joined the Rebellion just before Scariff. He was able to escape Admiral Raddus's ship, and Darth Vader's assault. Morel would sadly meet his end at Hoth, but was able to inform General Rieekan that Imperial troops had entered Echo Base. His warning would go on to save the lives of the communications room officers, including Rieekan and Leia Organa.

Now we get to the original VC Rebel Trooper, and the figure from whom is the basis for the buck sculpt. This isn't a bad figure at all! But buying multiples that all look alike just means you're troop building a new clone army, this time for the Rebels. This figure was available in the 1st VC run, and was recently included in the Tantive IV Playset.

All in all, this Troop Building Pack is a great idea, the next one is an Imperial Shoretrooper Pack coming later this year! But if there is one to get, it's this one. This is exclusive to Hasbro Pulse, and may be available at the time of this original post. So get it, and you will FINALLY have a true and proper Rebel Trooper squad!
