Cantina Patrons: Figures That Make Me Happy

Image
Before I start this weekend's review, a couple housekeeping notes: I will have a post next week to make a final push to #BackTheBar as this post is also intended for. I'll have a James Bond related post as well since next Sunday is July 7th, which really should be James Bond Day (07/07 or OO7), which will cover my favorite Ian Fleming novels, my favorite John Gardner novel, and my favorite Rarmond Benson novels, plus my favorite Bond Films, and my favorite moments of each actor who played Bond, plus the best versions of literary Bond villains. My choice as the best Blofeld may surprise you.  Also, I finally got the new VC ANH Leia this week, along with a slightly bent R2-D2 card (which I'm straightening out). This figure is amazing! I would have immediately done a review if not for the Cantina HasLab, so expect that coming soon. Also my ANH Darth Vader is soon to arrive, and I need that figure for a couple photos for reviewing each figure. If I'm needing review materia...

Captain Needa Legacy Collection Review

Image
The Vintage Collection slow crawl of 2024 has led me to cover some of my Black Series figures, and with my set up, it's hard to get good pictures on a playset designed for 3.75 inch AKA 1:18 scale figures. So what to do?! Well, BanthaSkull has been doing a great segment called "Figures That Make Me Happy". And needless to say, I love it! It's both a detailed look at the figure from a previous line, but done in a new way. I've got several Black Series figures done just for that, and once the HasLab campaign is over I'll post them. But, the One True Scale needs some time in the spotlight.  Captain Needa for those who don't know was the CO of the Star Destroyer who found the Millennium Falcon, and later lost it, with Han attaching the ship to Needa's Star Destroyer, Avenger. Needa went to Vader to personally apologize and got Force choked. Needa got released in the blue card wave of 2008 on the Legacy Collection in the Empire Strikes Back wave that incl...

HasLab VC Cantina

Image
After months of speculation, including a web page that accidentally went live, on June 7th, Hasbro made it official: the new Vintage Collection HasLab is Chalmun's Cantina aka the Mos Eisley Cantina as seen in A New Hope, and some other programs. So how does it measure up? Is it a good value? What's included? And most importantly: why back it? Not only will I answer those questions, along with adding what Hasbro must do when this funds. Because it will. Needless to say, I'm backing this, and will go into why, plus how I'm going to pay for it.  These pictures show off what you get (picture 1), the "Deluxe" additions (picture 2) and both versions put together (picture 3). If you have a desk or dresser, or a coffee table this will fit. The basic price is $399.99, for the deluxe version it's $499.99. Whether you get the base or deluxe, you get plenty of chairs, tables and cups. Now keep in mind, there are 3 figures included with this, and I'll get into th...

Darth Malgus Black Series Review

Image
The Black Series Darth Malgus which is in the Gaming Greats line was one of my top Black Series figures of 2023. And with good reason. The figure has excellent articulation, and my sample was well balanced, something I'll go into when I discuss it. But as you can see with the Vintage Collection Malgus standing next to it, it's easy to see why I like this figure. I've promised this review for a while, and now it's time to finally deliver!  Malgus has 18 POA, and I can honestly say it was incredibly easy to pose this figure to get these shots. I found his articulation to be simple, even his head which I'm showing without his mask. He has cloth robes permanently attached, along with a hood that does work quite well, and if you wanted to recreate his look from some of the KOTOR Trailers he appears in it's easy to do. Personally I wanted my Sixer Malgus to not be too similar to the Vintage Collection version as far as appearances go. He can do a THWG, I just didn...

Jango Fett Vintage Collection Review

Image
After a 13 year absence, Hasbro finally got around to making a new Jango Fett, utilizing one of the new Mandalorian sculpts (maybe more than one actually). But with Hasbro being Hasbro they made this a deluxe release. So is the "Jango Fett Tax" worth it? And how does it compare to the previous VC Jango? You better believe I have some thoughts on this!  First thing off the bat, once I opened this figure what really stood out to me was the paint apps, especially on the armor. It's glossy without being vac-metalized. Similar paint apps were used on the Disney Exclusive TC-14 (not pictured). If Hasbro ever gets around to doing a new C-3PO, I would like to see the same paint style applied. The sculpt appears to borrow from the Death Watch Mandalorian, and maybe parts from the Super Mandalorian Commando. Those figures have the new barbell hips, so he can be put into some neat action poses. However, he cannot move his arm to touch the other gauntlet to fire off his "flame...
