Cantina Patrons: Figures That Make Me Happy
Before I start this weekend's review, a couple housekeeping notes: I will have a post next week to make a final push to #BackTheBar as this post is also intended for. I'll have a James Bond related post as well since next Sunday is July 7th, which really should be James Bond Day (07/07 or OO7), which will cover my favorite Ian Fleming novels, my favorite John Gardner novel, and my favorite Rarmond Benson novels, plus my favorite Bond Films, and my favorite moments of each actor who played Bond, plus the best versions of literary Bond villains. My choice as the best Blofeld may surprise you.
Also, I finally got the new VC ANH Leia this week, along with a slightly bent R2-D2 card (which I'm straightening out). This figure is amazing! I would have immediately done a review if not for the Cantina HasLab, so expect that coming soon. Also my ANH Darth Vader is soon to arrive, and I need that figure for a couple photos for reviewing each figure. If I'm needing review material I have Black Series photos all ready to go, but I don't want to do them unless I'm out of Vintage Collection figures to review. Now that's out of the way, on to my reviews!
CANTINA PATRONS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY: HRCHEK KAL FAS
This figure was easy go find when it came out in 2009. In fact, he was a pegwarmer. Then when the VC came out in 2010, he hit clearance and vanished from shelves. When you see what his eBay prices are further down, you'll be shocked. Hechek sports the basic 14 POA that 3.75 inch figures had at the time. Only his waist, wrists and hips have swivel joints, everywhere else (head, arms, knees and ankles are ball joints). None of the joints on my figure are too loose or too tight.
His only included accessories are a glass, which I lost long ago, and a blaster pistol. I'm not sure if the one I have him holding is the one he came with, as his holster is too oversized and it easily falls out. He holds it well enough, but as I have him in a storage container with other loose figures I keep weapons in a small plastic ziplock style bag so they don't get lost. His head may not be entirely screen accurate, so if he's repacked a photo real upgrade would be needed, but it's my opinion he's okay as is.
The only way to get him now is on eBay, and he runs up to $300 on the card, and his loose price starts at $41 bid price to $160. While Hasbro doesn't take into account secondary market prices to release figures again, this time they may need to. Hrchek Kel Fas is a needed figure for the Cantina, and if Hasbro announced they were repacking this figure, it would help with the HasLab campaign.
LEESUB SIRLN
Leesub Sirln was also a peg warmer. In fact, I last saw her in 2013 at a Toys R Us in Jackson, Mississippi for a $4 clearance price. I was hoping they had another as I wanted to do a leg swap with Endor Leia, but there wasn't another one, so I left her on the rack. Well, I never attempted to do that custom, so I left that figure there in hindsight I should have bought it tonat least keep with my Prequel era figures. But, I had the one I bought in 2009, and she's pretty much been in storage, as up until now I've kept her in a storage container. Once the HasLab Cantina funds, I can properly display her.
Leesub has the standard 14 POA, with ball joints everywhere except her hips, waist and wrists. The sculpt and paint apps are well done, and her skin has a pink tint, so as you can see she's scantily clad. She came with 2 accessories: a glass (which I've lost. Again.) & a blaster that fits into a boot holster. Thankfully I haven't lost that! Another feature that Leesub and Hrchek have are that they are both easy to stand. It only took me seconds to set up these shots as I didn't have to lean them against a wall. It's something some modern VC figures can't do all the time. Now be sure you're sitting down for the secondary market prices.
On card she'll run from $100-$190, no doubt her price has gone up like Hrchek has because of the HasLab Cantina campaign. Loose she runs $89-$104. Which of course is high. I would hope that Hasbro considers repacking this figure, if they have the tooling available (they say they still have all Legacy Collection figure tooling, but it could be false). You need this figure for the Cantina, but the high prices on the secondary market may be partially the reason why this VC HasLab campaign has been slower than the last 3 campaigns. But she needs to be repacked, unless Hasbro doesn't have the tooling available. I don't see them using the Tonnika Sisters tooling for a new version, but it would be the best one to use for an all new figure.
MONAW NADON
Now with Monaw, here's the kicker: a new VC version is coming next year! However, with that being said, you might need this one anyway. After all, the Star Wars universe has lots of aliens, and there's enough room in the Cantina for 2 Ithorians (his species for those who don't know). While he came out in 2006, I only recently acquired this figure for $20 at the St Tammany Comic Con, I have that blog posted, just type that into the magnifying glass to read up on it.
Monaw sports only 6 POA, and all swivel joints. They don't take away from the anesthetics as he's a wonderfully sculpted figure. But he has one problem: he can't sit down. His POTF2 counterpart can, just not in a chair. He is quite bulky, as is this version. However he is very well balanced and doesn't need a stand for out of card display.
Monaw comes with 3 accessories. A glass which he can hold, a staff which I have trouble getting him to hold so I left it out, and a small table he can stand by. I'm fairly certain I have it right side up in my photos. But as you can see, it's a perfect place to share drinks with friends, even if it's not a screen accurate group photo. His cup is a great fit, it's not loose enough to fall out as he's in a storage bin at the moment. The current eBay prices are $35-$45 carded, so I got a great deal on this figure.
In conclusion, I hope Hasbro announces repacks for Hrchek & Leesub in the near future. The Cantina is close to funding, and the Greedo tier is still possible! But VC collectors who can afford this need to do so now!! This is the time to #BackTheBar!!
