TVC Jedi Spirits Review

In case you didn't know, from a toy perspective, Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie. I have more ROTJ figures than I do from the other OT movies, and Prequel figures, possibly combined. For many years, the only way to get a 3.75 inch version of the Jedi Spirits was the POTF2 Cinema Scene 3 pack, which were basically statues since there weren't any articulation points on those figures. Hasbro has made several Force Ghost versions of Obi-Wan and Anakin, but Yoda had been left out. If there was one, I didn't have it. I passed on the previous Force Ghost Obi-Wan from the OTC wave a couple months ago at a used toy shop. Photographing the box was difficult since Hasbro chose to use a ghostly color scheme, and those were the best pictures I could get. Overall, I'm happy to get this set. But I am disappointed in one of these figures. I'll tell you why in the individual figure reviews.

OBI-WAN (BEN) KENOBI

Obi-Wan or old Ben, is not a bad figure. But, I had hoped an in stock Obi-Wan from annonline retailer would make its way over before this package arrived so I could compare the 2 figures. He won't arrive until tomorrow. The head sculpt is amazing, and it reminds me of the 5 POA Rogue One Obi-Wan, who I'll compare the normal version to when I review that figure. Obi-Wan has a plastic skirt which limits his leg articulation, but he has the standard 17 POA of all the modern VC figures, including barbell hips. I had no difficulty standing him as he's well balanced. From what I can tell, there isn't too much difference with this figure over the standard figure, except the standard figure has a cloth skirt so he can sit in the Cantina and in the Falcon.

Obi-Wan's only accessory is his outer robe, which is removable. All of the figures robes are made out of a thin "shimmering" material to better show off the ghostly effect. I have him paired with Anakin so you can see the slight differences. But you can see the paint applications on the body, as the rest of the figure is translucent. The hood doesn't quite go up, so I can't re-enact the scene from ESB when he appears to Luke on Hoth. But, any ROTJ scene where he doesn't sit down, he can work. That's good, and all I need him for anyway.

Comparing him to his Black Series counterpart shows there isn't too much of a difference paint wise. This is the single Sixer Ghost Obi-Wan, not from the Sixer Spirits Pack from a couple years ago. I didn't test the VC Obi-Wan by giving him a lightsaber to hold, but he should easily be able to do so. Overall, I am very pleased with Obi-Wan. And in the photos with Luke, I wanted to show his "goodbye" to him from the Heir To The Empire novel. Another Legends scene will play out in another part of the review.

YODA

Yoda is the only figure I could do a living and One With The Force versions. But, the Yoda buck is from the VC ROTS Yoda, but with the outfit from the ESB VC Yoda. Moving the living Yoda I find to be a chore. Moving the Ghost Yoda, easy. He's also the only figure with accessories: his cane and his "flute" which he wears around his neck. He can easily hold his cane.

I wanted to show Yoda using his cane to hit Luke, but that first photo above was the best I could do. The Luke is my custom BOBF Luke, and that's the best cross legged sitting I felt comfortable putting Luke in. No Legends inspired scene here, but wanted to show off Yoda talking to him some time after ROTJ. And I really didn't want to take out the Disney Trilogy Luke for this review. Overall, Yoda isn't bad. He's got great balance, 14 POA (swivel elbows though), and a great head sculpt.

The Sixer Yoda is not from the Sixer Spirits 3 pack, but one I snagged last year at a convention. The VC Yoda looks much better, though. The face isn't as green, and looks more like a spirit. I apologize for the blurry picture but it was the best one I took.

ANAKIN SKYWALKER (SEBASTIAN SHAW)

Here is where I'm slightly disappointed. The headsculpt isn't bad as far as detail, but it's the hair. More on that below. And this figure didn't photograph as well as I would have liked. In the package, you can see this head/neck piece is separate. Swapping it out is very easy, which was what worried me the most about Anakin. He is sculpted in his smile, something the Vintage Kenner Anakin and the POTF2 Anakin had.

Comparing the POTF2 version, I kinda prefer the paint apps on the POTF2 Anakin. The hair isn't painted like I'd like it to be. It should be slightly darker, so it could stand out. I have no clue what Mr Shaw's real hair color was, but if it was painted grey, I think I would like this Anakin better than Hayden's. His outer robe is removable, of course. And for the picture with Leia, it's meant to be a recreation of his appearance to her in the novel The Truce At Bakura. He's got the standard 17 POA of modern VC figures, but like with Obi-Wan the skirt inhibits leg movement. But he's well balanced, and if you want to recreate the 1983 and 1997 Special Edition ending, this is the version of Anakin you'll want to display.

ANAKIN SKYWALKER (HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN)

What really stood out to me here was the head sculpt. Anakin has a kind look, and a smirk. But his eyes are just a bit off. It isn't as bad as some of the 3.75 Black Series figures from 2015, but his left eye looks slightly out of focus, like he's got a lazy eye. I did my best to show in the pictures, but it could be me being very tired, even  zooming in I still feel off about them. But since this is a ghostly Anakin, I'll let it slide. Now, I don't know if the head could be swapped with the Ahsoka Anakin in his ROTS outfit, as I really don't want to possibly break something that cost me over $60. But, the rest of the head sculpt, I like. Great paint job on the hair, the smirk, and when you have it in hand, the scar on his right cheek near his eye.

Comparing Anakin to his previous version, the only advantage the older one has is a cloth skirt. But the pain-in-the-@$$ hood on the old one bothered me greatly, it flared out like that all the time. The new hood stays down on Anakin and Obi-Wan, but you might want to use some 2 sided tape or a velcro patch to keep it pinned back. And of course, I had to have this Anakin displayed with Ahsoka and Luke! So for my displays involving Force Ghost Anakin, I'm going to use primarily the Hayden Anakin, as I just feel that's the better overall portrait, and the less flawed one. But that's the beauty of this set, you can display whatever version you want!

So, is it essential? Absolutely! The price is north of $60, (taxes) but I felt it was worth it. This set is available now to Hasbro Pulse Premium Members, and will be available to everyone else on November 3rd, 2025. I would recommend getting a Premium membership so that your shipping will be free, and you don't miss out on something like this! Now if only Hasbro would pay me to recommend that....

But it's figures like this that make collecting exciting for me. Return of the Jedi is the true end of the Saga for me, and now I need an Ewok Village Leia, a clapping Lando, a new Endor Han and Death Star II Luke to complete the final shot, along with Chewbacca and the Droids. The chance to acquire them, and incorporate them into post ROTJ adventures and scenes work well for me, personally. There is play and display value, the figures stand well on their own, and are fun to show off. So if you want them, and can afford them, get them!

Before I go, a preview of what I have in the review pipeline:

Now that I have Han, I can finally review Greedo! Bom Vimdin has been my most wanted figure for several years now, and I lucked out finding him at Target. No luck on the other Target VC exclusives: Bib Fortuna and the Gamorrean Guard.

LAST FIGURE STANDING: MY TOP 6

Voting is live on the 1st Round for LFS, head to BanthaSkull.com for the details on how to vote! To vote, just pick the 6 figures you want from the Top 12:

So, who were my picks? Again, I'm posting the ones I chose, and this isn't a push to vote how I did, just being informative. But I'm going to explain why I voted the way I did. In no particular order:

1. Arliel Schous. The Wolfman desire is real, he'd fit in the Cantina, and maybe, just maybe if he gets made, Lak Sivrak wouldn't be far behind.

2. Peli Motto. I'm using Rose Tico as a placeholder for Peli, who I like as a world builder for both The Mandalorian and BOBF. I'd be happy if her figure re-used Rose's buck with a new head sculpt.

3. Baze Malbus. I'd like a new Chirrut Imwe to pair with him, or just give the old Chirrut barbell hips. This would be an amazing 2 pack idea, but Baze is needed to finish the RO crew. So that's why he got my vote.

4. Office Duel Palpy. The office duel in ROTS is the most powerful event in the Saga, as it cements Anakin's fall to the dark side, and Palpatine getting shriveled up due to reflected Force Lightning. And what do we have in this scale? A 2005 figure you push down on to do a chopping motion. The recent Sixer Office Duel Palpy looks good, and should be done soon in The One True Scale.

5. Saw Gerrera. Aside from Bodhi Rook, Saw is the figure I want the most from Rogue One. With his appearances in Andor, it made him my 2nd easiest voting choice. Yes, he'll have to be deluxe as he's "kinda chunky" as MAKMCSWF would say, and he should come with multiple weapons. I'd prefer his Rogue One look, but if they chose Andor or Rebels, I'd be just as happy.

6. C-3PO. He's a Main. And his VC figure, well, it sucks. I have a Saga Collection Threepio that came with the Endor Throne that I use as my definitive Threepio. Since shrinking down Sixers is something Hasbro can do, and I do like everything about the Sixer Threepio (including the paint job, which isn't vac metal), I'd be happy with this. I'd also be happy if they went the route they did with R2-D2 and used the Build A Droid Protocol Droid buck for him. But my only demand: be on a Star Wars card! It's my final on card figure that I want.
