Unplanned Topic: Recent Figure Haul
First things first:
I seriously aged 10 years last night. But back to the topic, I had little to no time this week to write a post. Normally, I write a post on Thursday and clean it up Saturday to publish on Sunday. But, my 9-5 was busy, I was sick most of the week, and I just didn't have the time. But, I remembered an old toy store that had a bunch of stuff, and since I was sick last weekend, I decided to drive out there to see what could be had, and of course to spend some work bonus bucks. I was hoping to find some Playmates Star Trek figures, but they hadn't put up anything new. But, I found a few great deals, and nearly pulled off finding a complete scene of figures. And yes, I found a Cantina figure!
1. Unknown GI Joe Cobra Pilot Action Figure
I have no idea who this figure is, or what vehicle he drove. He has a flight helmet so I can only make an educated guess that he's a pilot. But I do know he shares a buck with Zartan, and has additional armor. He's custom fodder, though. And that's why I picked him. I had also grabbed some custom fodder for my MOTU Origins figures, a loose WWE Eternia Rey Mysterio, and a Zodac harness, but once I saw the next 2 figures I put I those back.
2. Zuckuss & 4-LOM
Not technically the Kenner figures, but I do enjoy a good Retro figure. Heck, I saw the ANH Retro 6 pack at Target earlier this morning. But I like single card versions. And I can't afford to troop build the Retro Rebel Fleet Trooper and Sandtrooper with Hasbro's current Retro model. I missed out on these figures a while back, and I knew I couldn't afford to pass on these figures. I quickly grabbed them. But, they will have some company. Yes, I plan to open them, obviously. The only Retro figures I plan to keep on the card are Yoda and Boba Fett.
2. Theed Battle Padme Amidala
This was from the Wal-Mart line from 2012-13. I had used the one I bought years ago for a failed custom attempt. Once I saw this on the rack, I grabbed it. I will open her up, and use her with the 1999 Anakin for a possible scene display. She's not a properly super articulated figure, but it is the best version of Padme from The Phantom Menace. Not a custom this time.
3. Solo Squared
I like good deals. I especially like good deals if I can save a couple bucks from another store. On the left is the CommTech POTF2 Han Solo, who was recently reviewed on BanthaSkull, and he's complete, except for the CommTech chip. He's got his blaster, and his knees are bent to fit in the bag. I could have gotten the figure on card for $9, here I get him for $5. Plus, he's got his blaster. To The right is a VC Bespin Han. But he has goggles and a welding tool. I'm not certain if those accessories are from the VC Echo Base Han, but the figure is a Bespin Han (blaster included), and he only cost $3. I can't pass that deal up. The CommTech Han will be in my Cantina, once I acquire the CommTech Greedo, which is available at a local Comic Book store.
4. Kenner Bossk & IG-88
When searching the individual figure racks, I found pay dirt. Big time! The Bossk does appear to be a Kenner Bossk, but the weapon on closer inspection could be a reproduction. Not a deal breaker. But his limbs aren't too loose, because he can stand quite well. And amazingly enough...I only have a Kenner Boba Fett to round out the ESB Bounty Hunters. It's one reason why I grabbed Zuckuss and 4-LOM. And yes, there were fully accessorized Kenner versions of those 2 figures, but the Retro's were cheaper. When I saw IG-88 I initially thought it was from the POTF2 Shadows Of The Empire 2 pack he came in, which was paired with Boba Fett and a comic book. But it wasn't until I got home that I saw he also came with his Stormtrooper blaster. I was distracted by seeing him with his long rifle. But I saw the back, and then yeah, he appears to be the Kenner version. But even if he isn't, that POTF2 IG-88 fits well with the Kenner figures. If they had Dengar, I would have had the whole set! Which means once I find a Kenner or Retro Dengar, my Kenner Star Wars collection will be complete. Unless a Retro Thrawn and Mara Jade get made.
Final Thoughts This Week
The Gunship has hit the halfway point, and is now slightly over 50% funded. The campaign ends next Monday, ironically on Star Trek Day. I think it will fund, but I'm not sure about the tiers. I have 2 posts planned, one I hope to post, one I don't want to post.
The Shawn Levy Star Wars movie starring Ryan Gosling is currently in production, and filming. New casting info has dropped. And look, if it's something you want to see, have at it. I do want to see the Mandalorian & Grogu movie, but this new one takes place after Episode 9 and I don't really care about that era. But, for the same reason I didn't see the last Indiana Jones movie, I will not see this one. But I won't campaign against it, either. Like I said, if you want to see it, go see it!
I will post a VC review next week, now that I'm feeling better and work will be sort of normal. But I have to drop a teaser, so I will. The only thing that disappointed me about the VC Merrin from Jedi Survivor is....you can't do a head swap with Morgan Elsbeth. That's it. But do I like the figure overall? Find out next week!
Thanks for reading! A special thanks to Chris and Nomad at BanthaSkull for allowing me to post this link in the comments section! Please share this link on your social media accounts so I can get more readers!
