VC Jedi Legend Obi-Wan Kenobi Review
Well, I've had a first time event happen here with Obi-Wan. And needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I'll explain as I go into my review. Which is as fresh as I can get. I was busy all week, had a therapy day yesterday and only this morning had time to finally open this figure. So, while I'm upset, I'll be as analytic as possible. Let's get this one started.
So that's one reason why I wanted to get this figure. And why what happened was so very disappointing.
Obi-Wan looks good, it's easy to remove his "robe", and he's able to hit some poses. He has the standard 17 POA that the newer VC figures have. He's easy to put into some action style poses. However, he isn't a well balanced figure so if you end up displaying him loose, you will need a stand. I had to lean him against the wall to get these shots.
My attempt at a "Staying Alive" pose on the photo above, similar to John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever and Ted Stryker from Aiplane! He can strike a disco style pose with some ease. None of his joints were too tight, so it's easy. He has a plastic skirt with side slits, making it easy to move his legs without too much of a problem. He's also got rocker ankles, essential for a Jedi. But, he does have a problem with the sculpt that his Sixer counterpart has. I'll get into that with the accessories.
He has a robe that's very easy to remove. Plus he has his lit and unlit lightsabers, with the unlit hilt being quite easy to fit on his belt. I wasn't able to get a THWG with his included lightsaber, so I substituted with his 5 POA figure using one of the extras I had. But it sadly brought out a fatal flaw in the VC figure, that isn't fatal in the Sixer version. As I switched to his included lightsaber for some battles with the non-crispy Anakin from the Anakin 3 pack, but then this happened:
Yeah. So his hand broke. At first, I thought that maybe this figure had ball jointed wrists, but no. It doesn't. Which is a problem tied to the sleeves of this figure. They flow out too far, so the hand articulation is limited. From what I can tell is they both have up and down hinges, as all Jedi should have (non-crispy Anakin has a side to side hinge on his right wrist, and the up and down hinge on his left wrist, a gripe that I and several people have. Not just Chris at BanthaSkull). On the Sixer version, it's difficult to get a THWG on his lightsaber as well, because of the puffy sleeves. I don't know how I broke the wrist, but it happened and needless to say, I'm pissed off. So I need to get some super glue because this is a good Obi-Wan, the best we have in the VC. If not for this unfortunate incident, I would give this a great review. Now, I have to find another to get as an opener instead of a carded version. So, I recommend getting this to keep carded. If I can't fix this one, I at least have some potential use for it as a custom*.
*If anyone has advice on how I can fix it, please let me know.
It looks like a clamp in his hand. I don't mind too much a permanently attached hand that can't move, but if nobody knows a way to fix it, that's what I'll have to do. If you do, please leave it in the comment section below. And if you do thank you! It would be easier to reference repair information in this comment section, as on BanthaSkull I would lose track easily.
Thanks for reading! A special thanks to Chris and Nomad at BanthaSkull for allowing me to post this link in the comments section! Please share this link on your social media accounts so I can get more readers!
