Insurgency Rising Comic Book Review

Image
I've talked about how lately that Star Wars comics just haven't been good. Now that Marvel is finally starting to move past Return of the Jedi in the comics, things are starting to heat up a bit. And in a good way. Marvel recently wrapped up the 1st 4 issue miniseries Insurgency Rising, which will lead into the Battle of Jakku, an event covered in the novels Aftermath: Empire's End, the final book of the Alphabet Squadron Trilogy and the young adult novel Lost Stars. All of those stories featured new characters in their own stories. But this new comic series has the OT Mains take center stage as those previous stories didn't have the Mains as the focus but as supporting characters. Here, they are the main focus. Well, Luke and Leia are, anyway. If you've read the Shattered Empire miniseries you know what Han is up to, not only the morning after Endor, but several weeks and months after. Lando is still active as a General, and both men have cameos here. Of course A...

Figures That Make Me Happy Ree Yees & Yakface

Image
When I was younger, I knew of the Kenner Yakface figure, and had Ree Yees, but it wasn't until the 1st archive book by Steve Sansweet that had this quote that has stuck with me for years: "The best drink Ree Yees ever had was with Saelt Marae (aka Yakface) on Jabba's Sail Barge. Sadly it was his last." That's more or less how the quote went. That book is currently in storage so I can't easily take it out to confirm, but from that quote, I've made it a point when POTF2 came out that Yakface and Ree Yees were always hanging out since they were drinking buddies. So I ignore the stuff that says they fought each other all the time. If they fought, it was only because they were drunk.  Yakface is a special figure to me. In my early days of this blog, he was the at the top of my VC Top 25. Search "VC Top 25" on the magnifying glass above and check out those posts, because next year I'll be doing an all new VC Top 25 For 2025. But back to Yakface. ...

Figures That Make Me Happy Legacy Collection Ben Kenobi (Custom)

Image
I did the younger version a couple weeks ago, so now onto Ben Kenobi! The figure is basically the Legacy Collection Ben, but he has swapped out hands, and a swapped out robe so he's a custom, and meets the definition of that term. I'll also go into full detail about how and why I made him, plus where he will be displayed in the future.... The figure is the Legacy Collection Ben Kenobi, figure 34 from the blue Legacy Collection card. He came with his lightsaber, a removable robe, a table, and a small hologram Princess Leia. He has 14 POA, not bad, but not as SA as the current VC standard of 17 POA. But, I swapped out his hands. His right hand had the mind trick gesture, and couldn't hold his lightsaber all that well. At least not well enough by my standards, so I swapped his hands with another figure. And it was so long ago, I don't remember if it was with the Evolutions Count Dooku, or the VOTC Ben Kenobi from 2004-05. But he holds his lightsaber well, as you'll s...

Disney Star Wars Turns 12

Image
For a completely different topic, I thought I'd turn to X, aka Twitter and screenshot people commenting and reacting to Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm 12 years ago. I'll offer my own comments under the pictures. I found that the X search gave me some insightful posts from people on both sides. Admittedly there are a few posts that made me cringe a bit, but it is their opinion.. Big difference in opinion on those posts, don't you think? There's more though:  These 2 pictures do sum up my overall opinion of Disney Star Wars. I liked Rebels, 1st 2 Mandalorian seasons and Andor....but it's a big drop down after that. Oh, and that Rey movie/Trilogy ain't gonna happen at this point. I can agree SW is currently needing treatment in a Bacta Tank, though. Andor S2 can hopefully turn things around for the better.  I feel Rex is the type of person who loves the name "Star Wars" slapped on anything. Same in a way with Max. Again, it's their opinions. Mine...

New and Updated Customs

Image
Here is my dilemma for this week. I had planned for a review of one of the Jabba's Denizens pack figures when I hit a snag at work. Long story short, I had no time to take photos. Since my local NFL game is the Saints vs Panthers, I am taking pictures then. I'd rather watch paint dry then watch that battle for the top pick of next April's NFL Draft. Also, I didn't want to cover a certain figure that makes me happy this week, so I went one (actually several) better, and opted to show off some customs I've recently worked on but haven't shown off. I'll explain how I made them, plus which one I need to work on a bit. Plus, I've updated a previous custom and may show off one I've done a long time ago but never photographed. And congrats to Arliel Schous for winning Last Figure Standing!  1. Post Endor Inquisitors/Emperor's Hands My main loose figure collection consists of figures from the ROTJ/New Republic Era in both Legends and Disney Canon. I'...
