Disney Star Wars Turns 12
For a completely different topic, I thought I'd turn to X, aka Twitter and screenshot people commenting and reacting to Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm 12 years ago. I'll offer my own comments under the pictures. I found that the X search gave me some insightful posts from people on both sides. Admittedly there are a few posts that made me cringe a bit, but it is their opinion..
Big difference in opinion on those posts, don't you think? There's more though:
These 2 pictures do sum up my overall opinion of Disney Star Wars. I liked Rebels, 1st 2 Mandalorian seasons and Andor....but it's a big drop down after that. Oh, and that Rey movie/Trilogy ain't gonna happen at this point. I can agree SW is currently needing treatment in a Bacta Tank, though. Andor S2 can hopefully turn things around for the better.
I feel Rex is the type of person who loves the name "Star Wars" slapped on anything. Same in a way with Max. Again, it's their opinions. Mine greatly differ. I'd rather better quality story telling on a small number of projects than doing what they have been lately. I felt Ahsoka was...underwhelming. Skeleton Crew might be good, but what will it contribute to the overall story in the early New Republic era? Get the little things right, then get a good movie lined up. Will Mandalorian & Grogu be the box office hit Disney badly needs? Time will tell.
I wouldn't mind Elon Musk buying Lucasfilm. He's loaded! Steve's opinion made me cringe, where does he see strength in a brand that has more cancelled projects than actual completed ones, lately? If he's talking about the books (excluding the High Republic) and comic books, yes those are back on track. At least the comic books anyway. RED Patriot sums up my thoughts at the time of the purchase, I was excited! But there was one moment that happened and my heart broke. Next screenshot sums it up:
Nina's feelings mirror my own. After Episode 8, I just felt dead inside. Seeing what had been done to my childhood hero was gut wrenching, but my expectations were subverted. I had high hopes before that movie. Instead it ruined Luke Skywalker. Which is why I'm glad to have, and stick with only the George Lucas films. I enjoyed Rogue One & Solo, but honestly I don't have to watch them when I do watch Star Wars movies.
One way I have gotten enjoyment back for Star Wars is watching reaction videos to people seeing them for the first time. It's a way to remember what we liked and love about these movies when we see how strangers react to seeing a lightsaber ignited for the first time, Vader's reveal at Cloud City and Anakin's return to save his son.
