Count Dooku Vintage Collection Review

Well, it's about freaking time! For as long as the Vintage Collection had returned, collectors had demanded that Count Dooku get a figure in the line. There have been several before and I'll show them further down. But all I have to say about it, is that the wait has been worth it! The card image is from the film, and is amazing! The back of the card just shows the figure and the card with some words on the back. As I've mentioned before this is how the VC will be going forward so no more images of other figures on the back. I believe this was done to not spoil future VC figures, something Hasbro has had happen in the past.

Dooku has the standard 17 POA, and has the barbell hips so he can still be posed in action, despite the plastic skirt. It doesn't badly inhibit lower body movement one bit. None of the joints are too tight, or too loose. Since the late Christopher Lee was a tall man, his figure is quite tall as well. He's taller than Obi-Wan and Anakin in one of the photos below. Even though those are older figures, they do not match Dooku's level of articulation. I also added a photo of Dooku getting ready to duel Yoda, and he looks good in the set up. This figure is also extremely well balanced, it took very little time to set him up. Where as with the other figures, it took more time.

Dooku doesn't come with a lot of accessories, but he has what he needs. Dooku comes with a lit lightsaber and an unlit hilt. He also comes with a swappable right hand that shoots Force Lightning, and it's quite easy to swap out his hands. However, just as with the Wandering Jedi Obi-Wan, the lightsaber in my opinion is way too small. Which is why in other photos I used a lightsaber from one of the older figures. Not only can he hold the older lightsaber in his left hand while having the lightning hand attached, he can also get a two-handed weapon grip on the older one.  You will be able to see this in the photos below. The unlit hilt fits on his belt, but it does take some effort. The cape is also removable, and you don't need to take his head off to do it. It fits quite nicely, and as in the movie it has a lighter color on the inside. Of all the capes Hasbro has made, this may be the best one they've ever made for this scale.

Below you will see some of the previous versions of Count Dooku. The only ones I don't have are the 2002 & 2003 I versions as they are in storage. I have the 2005 Revenge of the Sith Dooku, which is a good figure. His forearms can be removed just as they were in the movie. Plus his head is easily removable and actually has a decent head sculpt. The other is the Dooku from the Evolutions line from around 2007. The figure has a cloth skirt, and a head sculpt that resembles actor Harold Gould, who played Betty White's long time boyfriend on The Golden Girls. But all of these figures are new sculpts, at the time. You can see the Vintage Collection version is the best.

Now is this figure essential? Absolutely! He's needed for any AOTC or Clone Wars display, and he's definitive so that also makes him essential. Sadly, Dooku is only available via fan channels, so far only Amazon has him still. He's sold out on Entertainment Earth and Pulse he's been in and out of stock. I haven't checked Big Bad Toy Store, but give that a shot before going to eBay. It's been worth the wait, but it also highlights why a new Anakin & Obi-Wan are needed for the Vintage Collection. With new Jedi coming in The Acolyte series, it's possible those 2 Jedi can be done, as Dooku needs worthy adversaries.
