Morgan Elsbeth VC Review
Companies always look for a way to save money. Especially Hasbro which lost over $1 billion in Q4 of 2023. That approach shows in how figures are made, especially for Star Wars, but it goes to other Hasbro properties like Marvel, GI Joe, and Transformers. Morgan Elsbeth makes her figure debut, and most collectors aren't overly critical of the figure itself, just what the figure doesn't come with. I'm also taking a different approach to my reviews from this point forward, so let's get this one started!
ARTICULATION/SCULPT/PAINT APPS
Morgan has the standard 17 POA that all modern VC figures have. She also has barbell hips, so posing her in action scenes is easy to do. Having rocker ankles helps with this. Her skirt doesn't get too much in the way of posing, but there are limits so just be careful not to damage it, even though the material seems strong enough to not rip, only time will tell how well that holds up. The face sculpt resembles actress Diana Lee Inosanto very well, and the paint apps on her eyes and hair are very well done. In the past 3-4 years Hasbro has done a better job on this part. Sadly, a problem on some of the newer figures is the lack of elbow articulation. She's limited to only 90 degrees. On a positive note, this is a well balanced figure, so she might not need a stand if you store her loose.
ACCESSORIES/CARD IMAGE
Well, here is where collectors are upset: she doesn't have any. Morgan is based off her appearance in the Ahsoka series, and she carried no weapon until the finale. So no Beskar spear, and no sword of Talzin. But I'll get to that later. The card image (first photo at the top of this post) looks to be a still from the show. One criticism of Hasbro I have is when computer images are used for the Kenner style cards, and praise them for when they don't use them. It's a good image, and if you choose to get one to keep carded, will look great wherever you choose to display it.
However, this figure can hold accessories. It takes some work for it not to slip out, but above you can see she can hold a Beskar Spear (got The Rescue set on clearance) and a lightsaber. I have a few spare Ninja swords and she can hold them as well (not pictured). She also looks good dueling Ahsoka, I had hoped to get more pictures but my weak legged robed Ahsoka kept falling over.
CONCLUSIONS
When looking at this figure, this buck can be recycled to make the following figures:
1. Peridea Nightsisters
2. Witches of Dathomir
3. Enchanted Morgan with Sword of Talzin
4. Mother Talzin
5. Asajj Ventress (Clone Wars)
6. Merrin
7. Dark Side Rey
So there is a chance the Morgan Elsbeth buck gets new life as other figures, similar to bucks used for male and female Mandalorian figures. While no accessories were included, this was no doubt a budget decision, and my hypothesis is that they wanted to give ROTJ Vader all of those to keep it from being a deluxe release. Overall, this is a very good figure. Heck, take the head from the Comic Pack Asajj Ventress (see the photos below) and place it on Morgan and it fits perfectly! I couldn't get a Rey head to fit well, but Hasbro could make one that can. This figure has custom possibilities, and for me that's exciting enough to buy a few so I can try them out. I do recommend this figure for that reason.
