Darth Revan VC Review
Let's go back to 2018, the VC had returned after a 6 year absence, and Hasbro planned Darth Revan as VC 150. But, there was a catch. It was going to be the 2007 Darth Revan that at the time was hard to find and going for triple digits on eBay. Collectors, led by sites like Jedi Temple Archives & BanthaSkull complained the loudest, and Hasbro relented. So Revan was put to rest, while the Black Series got an incredible Revan in the 6 inch line. So in late 2023, Hasbro released a new Revan, VC 301. How does it compare to the Black Series one? Check out the picture below!
Revan sports the typical 17 POA that modern VC figures have, and of course the new barbell hips. However, as with the Sixer version, the cloth skirt inhibits movement so cool action poses are difficult to do, and I don't recommend trimming the skirt or the plastic above it. Another area of limited articulation is the elbows, which you can bend up to a 90 degree angle. On the lovely Rey figure from Episode 9, you can see that figure has full elbow range (in the photos below).
Revan comes with 3 accessories: 2 lightsabers, and something the Sixer version doesn't have (if it does, I haven't and will not attempt), a removable hood! And it shows off the full helmet Revan wears. The 2007 version's mask exposed a bald head and his ears (not pictured), strangely enough that kind of reminded me of Anakin from ROTJ after Luke removed Vader's mask. Revan's Mandalorian influence can be seen on his helmet, and I have to admit it looks pretty damn cool! He can hold either lightsaber in any hand, but I found it best to have his purple lightsaber in his right hand, as the red one was a bit loose in his right hand. And I just got the Jedi version of Revan, so if I open that one he'll be okay holding his included purple lightsaber.
I should note I found this figure at Fan Expo New Orleans, and while I paid a higher than normal price to get him, I am glad I did, although it was close to my maximum price of $45 for a figure. I do have a couple more coming, and I hope to make a custom version of Revan, or some other dark side user (Kylo Ren maybe? Baylan could be made from the ROTJ Vader, I would need a cloth vest though). This one won't be used for a custom, though.
Okay, so is Darth Revan essential? No. He isn't. Admittedly, I am not a gamer and never played KOTR, but Revan's story is impressive, and mirrors Anakin Skywalker's, although for Revan's conversion it was mental while Anakin's was physical. It is a decent figure, fun to play with (elbow and leg articulation restrictions aside), and it just looks cool next to Vader (photo above), who he nearly matches in height. I'm a sucker for Sith Lords and will buy as many as I can afford to, but if you have the VC 1.0 or 3.75 Black Series Bastilla Shan, you finally have decent figure to pair her with. Although Hasbro could make an improved Bastilla and Darth Malak and make KOTR VC collectors extremely happy. I dig the card image as well, and he looks nice on card, but the limited articulation knocks this figure down a couple notches. It's a good figure, not great. Acceptable for a video game character, but unacceptable for a main OT/PT character.
