The Only Reboot Star Wars Needs

Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn created lots of clickbait content as he stated he would like to reboot the Star Wars Saga. As you can imagine, this was not well received by hardcore Star Wars fans. Heck, most of Disney Star Wars isn't well received by fans. Notorious click bait master Mike Zeroh now talks Rachel Zegler, Jada Pinkett-Smith & Will Smith instead of Star Wars. There is something that does need rebooting, and if it's done correctly could not only bring back fans to Star Wars: reboot the sequel trilogy.

To be fair, the sequel trilogy was a soft reboot of Star Wars. Rey, not Anakin becomes the Chosen One, and fulfills that prophecy (very poorly). The way Legacy characters were handled upset many, including me. Disney's biggest mistake was thinking the majority of the general public would care about their characters as much as they do about Luke, Leia and Han. Breaking news: they didn't! But there are fans of those characters and movies, and what I propose will make them happy, too. Well, maybe. But first things first:

REBOOT THE SEQUEL TRILOGY

This is easier said then done. But thankfully, Dave Filoni and Star Wars Rebels created a natural breaking point. In the Season 4 episodes Wolves & A Door, and World Between Worlds, the possibilities of alternate realities became possible. The sequel trilogy reality had Ahsoka dying on Malacore, while the alternate reality is Ezra saving Ahsoka. I used this as the basis for my own Star Wars AU for my short fan fiction stories.

What a new sequel trilogy should focus on is the restoration of the Republic, led by Leia with the restoration of the Jedi Order led by Luke. This way, the Chosen One prophecy is fulfilled by both his children. There should be a romance for Luke, and a love triangle involving the woman Luke falls in love with, as well as a student who turns to the dark side. Now obviously, no Legacy character should die in this trilogy, as by the end, Leia becomes Chancellor and Jedi Master Luke Skywalker has the Jedi Knights ready to take on keeping peace, and preparing for the birth of his son Ben, while his nephew and niece Jacen and Jaina are ready to begin their training, symbolizing the next generation being ready to start their own path.

Now with my planned reboot, the fans of the current sequel trilogy can still enjoy those movies as Ahsoka being dead means their reality happens. With Ahsoka alive, it changes everything! Now while I'm not convinced the upcoming Rey Palpatine (she can call herself Skywalker all she wants but we know who she really is) will be box office success, despite young people (18-30 as of 2023) liking the sequels, or having a favorable view of them. However this segment isn't buying the merchandise, which is where Star Wars makes a good deal of money.

That's really all that needs to happen. I don't think the current Disney-Lucasfilm regime of Iger & Kennedy will admit their movies and vision have failed, but a new regime might see things differently. The story of Anakin Skywalker's tragic fall, and redemption through his son is an incredible story and doesn't need to be remade. But what happens after that does, as it's a disservice to characters that fans have loved for nearly a half-century.
