Ahsoka S1 Thoughts

The first season of Ahsoka has come, and is now done. No word on when the 2nd season will begin. The episodes were mostly viewed as being good, but the finale created a divide as being good to absolutely horrible. I'm in the camp as the season overall was good, and some things did annoy me, but there are some silver linings, so to mirror a favorite Western of mine, I'll review The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Ahsoka Season 1

THE GOOD

1. Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka. She's great!
2. Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth (she did her own stunts BTW, had no idea she also did fight choreography)
3. Rebels characters in live action: Hera, Sabine and Chopper.
4. What I've waited to see since 1991: Grand Admiral Thrawn in live action!!
5. Huyang.
6. Nighttroopers
7. Baylan and Shin

All the lead actresses did the best with what they had to work with. Not all the scripts were great, but they worked with what they had. Thrawn for me personally is a highlight because I loved what Lars Mikkelsen did as a voice actor and brought that same level to the live action portrayal. David Tennant back as Huyang (he also voiced him in Clone Wars) was just showing Dave Filoni's love for Dr Who. And Thrawn's army of undead Stormtroopers, aka Nighttroopers is perfect timing for October!

Also Baylan and Shin are the two most interesting characters on this show, especially Baylan. Ray Stevenson is getting well deserved praise for his portrayal, and while this role will have to be recasted due to his passing, if Baylan finds The Son, as he's rumored to be seeking, this will be fun! Shin has great potential as well. She starts off with Baylan as his apprentice but it appears she's breaking off from him. She's still a mystery, and one worth solving in the future.

THE BAD

1. Jedi Sabine
2. If Thrawn had the resources, why not wipe out Ezra and the planetary population?
3. Ezra and Sabine's reunion
4. No product before the premiere.
5. The New Republic

This picture is a quote, I don't know if it's accurate but it's a conversation between George Lucas & Lawrence Kasdan (the final quote), and sums up my take on Sabine being a Jedi:

It's pretty wild. Honestly.

Thrawn had his ship, in a weakened condition, but could have easily laid waste to the planet inhabitants, and the Dathomir Witches could have divided Ezra's attention long enough to kill him. He had 10 years, for crying out loud!

The Ezra and Sabine reunion fell flat. Now, I did have some hope that maybe there could be some romance between them, and admittedly that does cloud my take. So take that from what you will.

One major problem Hasbro has is absolutely zero product ready for the debut. At the very least, Ahsoka, Sabine and Morgan Elsbeth should have been on shelves. And once the series wrapped up, Baylan, Shin and Ezra should be out for both scales. The Black Series gets everyone soon. The VC only has Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera and Chopper. Heck, even the Retro line has a full slate of figures coming soon! If we saw a character in the trailer, we should at least have the lead character in figure form!

As I mentioned in my earlier post: https://sundaystarwars.blogspot.com/2023/08/what-i-think-we-will-wont-see-in-ahsoka.html all roads lead to the sequels, so the New Republic must be a weak government. And it is. We do get a connection to Star Wars: Resistance as we see Senator Hamato Xiono, father to the series lead Kaz Xiono. Seeing C-3PO was neat, but it would have been better to see Leia in the Senate, along with Hamato and Mon Mothma instead. If the weak government holds, Thrawn should have an easy time destabilizing the weak New Republic. And unlike the YouTubers, I doubt Luke, Han and company come to save the day.

THE UGLY

1. Nighttroopers. Stormtroopers who just can't die.

2. Dathomir Witches/Army. Those caskets had some connection to the Witches, what is it?! I guess we'll find out in Season 2!

FINAL VERDICT

I found this enjoyable, definitely not the 5th season of Rebels I was expecting but a nice departure. With these characters now taking the place of the main heroes of the OT, it is a new era for Star Wars. I'm more interested in what Baylan is up to, and how  if any, his relationship with Shin will change. Will she become his enemy and ally with Ahsoka and Sabine? Or is she carrying out a secret plan for Baylan? That's what I want to know more about.

Thanks for reading! Please share this post on your social media accounts so I can get more readers! No review for Krrsantan as I will be attending a small comic con today! That review is coming next week!
