SDCC Vintage Collection Reveals

I was too busy to do a review of all the Star Wars product reveals. The biggest reveal, the HasLab Vintage Collection vehicle The Ghost has funded, now the only question will be if it gets more than 17,000 backers so that Ezra, Kanan and Zeb get made. The HasLab Ghost was the worst kept secret, as many fan collecting sites had this identified long ago. But the price wasn't $600 but $500, which is good because that $600 rumor had a lot of weight to it. The Ghost is the largest ship ever made by Hasbro (the Legacy Millennium Falcon is slightly smaller). But there were figure reveals, and a pipeline reveal that has the collecting community I interact with very divided.

VINTAGE COLLECTION REVEALS

1. Ahsoka Tano. She appears to be the repacked figure from The Mandalorian, but with just a new card.

2. Sabine Wren. Sabine had her deluxe version revealed as she'll come with a Loth Cat, as well as her blasters, helmet and Ezra Bridger's lightsaber

3. Pre Vizsla. Voiced by Jon Favreau in Clone Wars, Pre makes his VC debut. I'll have my take on this figure in my review of the animated Clone Wars Pre Vizsla in a little while.

4. Life Day Chewbacca. Yes, a Holiday Special figure is coming to the VC! Now bring on Art Carney and Bea Arthur! This will be a Disney Store exclusive.

5. Grand Admiral Thrawn. He's on a Rebels card, making him the 1st Rebels card in the VC. Hera is 2nd since The Ghost funded, and what remains to be seen is of Ezra, Kanan and Zeb will join Thrawn, and how soon. But if you miss out on The Ghost, all these figures will come soon, give or take a couple years.

6. Imperial Officer Pack. This comes with Admiral Piett from ESB (notice his rank insignia is correct), Admiral Motti from ANH, a generic Imperial Officer and an ISB Officer. Exclusive to Hasbro Pulse.

DARTH REVAN!!!! This is a figure that originally was to be VC 150, but a repack of the 2007 figure. Fans on collecting sites blew up, and Hasbro relented. He gets a new sculpt for the VC, but sadly isn't VC 300. He looks to be smaller version of the Sixer Revan, but this version has a removable hood. I don't know if the Sixer Revan can have his hood removed, but if not, take THAT Sixers!!!!

Christmas Purge Trooper. I didn't want to cover Black Series, but this Nutcracker inspired Purge Trooper looks really good!

VINTAGE COLLECTION PIPELINE

1. Count Dooku. This year's March Madness winner is my guess for VC 300. Well deserved!

2. Mandalorian Commander (Season 3). He'll sell.

3. Cassian Andor (Rogue One). I get adding photo real, but unless this is a new sculpt head to toe...he'll pegwarm again.

4. Grogu (Season 3 Pram). Unless Grogu can move his head and arms (they have a tendency to fall off) I'm skipping this. But swappable heads, I might be in.

5. Mandalorian (Din Djarin). This is the figure that comes with the N1 Starfighter so he'll have the cloth cape. Get this instead of the Rescue pack, plus he's got the Darksaber.

6. Axe Woves. The only thing I can think of is that they added a swappable helmeted head, which would be a repaint of the Deathwatch Trooper's helmet. If it has that, I'll buy it. If not, pass. Repacking a retail exclusive makes no sense, unless there is a change being made to it.

7. Phase I Clonetrooper. With the way the Phase II Clonetrooper has sold, this was inevitable. Need 4 for my squad as I have plenty of named Clones to lead them.

And finally the one that has collectors up in arms:

8. Finn (Episode 7). Now had this been Finn from Episode 9, I'd be happy. Instead, they picked the worst outfit from a figure that hasn't aged well. Maybe giving him a photo real head will improve the figure's appearance, but his outfit just isn't toyetic. Black and orange are really bland, nothing pops out. You can find this figure cheaply on eBay if you want it. Now an Episode 9 Finn, or better yet a Stormtrooper Finn (the new Clone buck would make for an excellent FO Stormtrooper) this would sell quite well. I want to see the card as this is one I'd like to keep on card. But it's clear Hasbro wants to test sequel characters since they're the future. But the last sequel character to get a toy release was Old Man Han Solo, and that figure went straight to Ollie's. This figure might suffer the same fate, as collectors will for the most part pass. But like I said, he is a main character and I hope they use a good image on the card. And give him the Skywalker lightsaber so he can at least get a start on becoming a Jedi, which he might be in the new movie. But to really trigger collectors, Hasbro should have done a Rey Skywalker figure...and yes, I'd buy one. If the card looks good..
