SDCC Vintage Collection Reveals

Image
I was too busy to do a review of all the Star Wars product reveals. The biggest reveal, the HasLab Vintage Collection vehicle The Ghost has funded, now the only question will be if it gets more than 17,000 backers so that Ezra, Kanan and Zeb get made. The HasLab Ghost was the worst kept secret, as many fan collecting sites had this identified long ago. But the price wasn't $600 but $500, which is good because that $600 rumor had a lot of weight to it. The Ghost is the largest ship ever made by Hasbro (the Legacy Millennium Falcon is slightly smaller). But there were figure reveals, and a pipeline reveal that has the collecting community I interact with very divided. VINTAGE COLLECTION REVEALS  1. Ahsoka Tano. She appears to be the repacked figure from The Mandalorian, but with just a new card. 2. Sabine Wren. Sabine had her deluxe version revealed as she'll come with a Loth Cat, as well as her blasters, helmet and Ezra Bridger's lightsaber 3. Pre Vizsla. Voiced by Jon Fa

Clone Wars Pre Vizsla

Image
At SDCC last week, Hasbro unveiled Pre Vizla for the Vintage Collection. However this isn't the first 1:18 scale Pre Vizsla as he was in the Clone Wars (voiced by Jon Favreau) animated line back in 2010. So, why not look back on that figure as the new version has a completely different head sculpt that makes me wonder if Pre Vizsla makes a live action appearance in Ahsoka since most Clone Wars figures in the VC are basically done as if they appear in live action. Pre Vizsla comes with an impressive 14 POA, and is sculpted to resemble his look in the animated series. He looks a lot thinner than a modern Mandalorian figure (see the photo below for comparison). He has the ball socketed hips, which was beginning to make it's debut back then with the new Vintage Collection figures. He has decent movement, and all his joints move well. He is also well painted, no smears or smudges anywhere. His head sculpt captures his look from the Clone Wars series, something his upcoming VC figu

VC Deluxe Darktrooper Review

Image
If you played the Dark Forces video game back in the 1990's you should be familiar with the Darktroopers. Hasbro made one for the POTF2 Expanded Universe wave in 1998 and around 2010 featured a build-a-droid version exclusive to Wal-Mart. When the 2nd season of The Mandalorian came in 2020, they were brought into Disney Canon by kidnapping Grogu on Tython and served as fodder for Luke Skywalker's rescue of Grogu 2 episodes later. Hasbro once again has made a Darktrooper figure, but this time as deluxe figure. There are some good, and some not so good things about this figure. The bad thing originally for this figure was the $27.99 price tag. Now you can find these half off at Target, I paid full price for all 4, yet bought 2 with a gift card. Is it worth $28? Well, no. But inflation being what it is, that's the price for a deluxe figure. The figure comes with a "charging station" that is very simple to build. It took me less than 2 minutes to put the stations to

VC 280 Darth Vader (Return of the Jedi)

Image
Very rarely does a figure come out that I drop literally everything I do and spend hours just playing around with jt, putting it in action poses, etc. Last year, that was what I did with the Dark Times Darth Vader, which was my top figure of 2022. That figure was perfection, excellent new sculpt head to toe. It was only a matter of time before Hasbro would wisely go back to that new sculpt for a Vader figure from one of the Lucas Era films. And with this year marking the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, Hasbro decided to pack Darth Vader again, but this time as a figure that can cover every scene from that film, including having something that is difficult for the 1:18 scale: a removable helmet. Needless to say, Hasbro: mission accomplished!! Vader comes packed on a new card for ROTJ, not showing the classic Vader image, but one with his helmet removed to show the scarred face of Anakin Skywalker just before he becomes one with the Force. For collectors who want a Sebastian Sh

Why Less Star Wars ( & Marvel) Is A Good Idea

Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced massive budget cuts as Disney has lost over a now estimated $1 billion at the box office. There's also rumors that Disney is looking to unload ABC, and both the FX and FXX networks as well. With that, Iger has announced cuts are coming to properties like Marvel and Star Wars, such as fewer productions. This could be a very good thing for Star Wars long term future. I've gone into Marvel's current failings, how they hit the wall with Infinity War and Endgame, but they are finding that Captain Marvel, Spider-Man (which actually makes money) and not having Tony Stark as Iton Man and Steve Rogers as Captain America are disappointing MCU fans. Well, Star Wars is in a similar boat. Star Wars fans love Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, but the chances of them appearing or starring in New material is next to nothing. Don't expect to see any OT main characters in the upcoming Mandoverse movie unless it's a cameo role. While Spider-Man can carry

Brotherhood Novel Review

Image
Disney era novels on average for me are a B grade. Enjoyable, not a chore to read in most cases. But that changes with Brotherhood, the post Attack of the Clones novel by Mike Chen. Because I am giving this novel a rare A grade. As you read this review, I will justify why this deserves a high grade, and there will be some slight spoilers. Mike Chen's work is new to me, this was the first novel he had written, so I needed time to get used to it. Chapters are broken down by character names, as the chapters are highlighted by a particular character's point of view, for example Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, etc. The only negative is the chapters go from the usual 9-11 pages down to 4. However, the pace really doesn't break the story flow. There admittedly isn't a lot of "action" but when it does take place, it's well described and easy to follow and visualize in your mind. The story refers to a line Obi-Wan tells Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, how "
