Clone Wars Pre Vizsla
At SDCC last week, Hasbro unveiled Pre Vizla for the Vintage Collection. However this isn't the first 1:18 scale Pre Vizsla as he was in the Clone Wars (voiced by Jon Favreau) animated line back in 2010. So, why not look back on that figure as the new version has a completely different head sculpt that makes me wonder if Pre Vizsla makes a live action appearance in Ahsoka since most Clone Wars figures in the VC are basically done as if they appear in live action.
Pre Vizsla comes with an impressive 14 POA, and is sculpted to resemble his look in the animated series. He looks a lot thinner than a modern Mandalorian figure (see the photo below for comparison). He has the ball socketed hips, which was beginning to make it's debut back then with the new Vintage Collection figures. He has decent movement, and all his joints move well. He is also well painted, no smears or smudges anywhere. His head sculpt captures his look from the Clone Wars series, something his upcoming VC figure fails to do, in my opinion.
Pre comes with a removable cape, which as you can see in the photos he doesn't have, and I have no clue what happened to it! He comes with 2 blasters which believe it, or not stay in the holsters. His jetpack is also removable and if you store him loose it will fall off his back, but it will stay on for the most part. He also comes with the Darksaber and holds it best in his right hand. Sadly the Darksaber isn't long enough to do a THWG (yet as seen below he can do a THWG with a lightsaber). His other accessory is my least favorite: the removable helmet. It is just freakishly large. As good a figure as this is, that's the only knock. As you can see below, he fits in somewhat with modern Mandalorian figures like Bo Katan.
With Pre Vizsla coming to the VC, he will get a realistic style treatment. But as you can see, he just doesn't resemble his animated counterpart. No hair on the VC one, while his CW version does. Honestly, despite the massively large helmet, I do like this figure. He's well made, holds up well, and looks neat! While he does resemble the animated series, he's a well made figure. Maybe not good as a primary display figure but a good background character. I have no doubt his new figure will fly off shelves as he's a Mandalorian, but he needs to come with a swappable helmeted head, otherwise collectors will grumble about it...like we do about EVERYTHING!! If you want this version, his secondary market price should drop a bit once the VC figure debuts. Right now (July 2023) he goes for up to $200 on card and $80 loose. But again, he should drop in value once his VC figure debuts. Now is this version of Pre Vizsla essential? If you collect animated Clone Wars figures, yes. If not, then no. But since I'm a suckered for all things Mandalorian he's essential to me, and for now I'll withstand the temptation to sell mine. For now, anyway.
