VC Nien Nunb Review

Nien Nunb in my opinion is one of the coolest looking characters in all of Star Wars. Disney even had him surviving until the Battle of Exegol where Wokepedia says he was killed offscreen, but since we didn't see him die, he's still alive. But he's also in the new wave of Vintage Collection figures, plus he's in Return of the Jedi, so why not talk about the one figure you need to have a full ROTJ experience?!

Full disclaimer: this is the 1.0 VC Nien Nunb, and I was incredibly fortunate to find him, as he came out as the line began winding down. He was so hard to find that when I saw a few years ago what he went for on card I was angry for even opening him up! Another disclaimer: he comes with 2 weapons, a pistol and a blaster rifle but I lost the rifle ages ago. But all the stats are the same for either release, but I will show photos of the weapons, and a head shot of the 2023 version (images below from Galactic Figures).

Nien has 14 POA, and for a sculpt that is 14 years old (most of him comes from the 2009 B-Wing pilot Nien Nunb from a Battle Pack, and he can be seen in a full B-Wing pilot outfit in the briefing scene). All you really need him to do is sit in the Millennium Falcon's co-pilot seat along with General Lando, and he does that quite well. He can hold both weapons in either hand if you want him to blast at Bucketheads (I haven't liked a lot of Disney additions, but I like this term in describing Stormtroopers) or Biker Scouts. That pistol will not fall out of his holster. His vest and cap are not removable. His old fashioned swivel hips make it easy to sit him in any vehicle, like the Falcon!

The head sculpt is what really stands out! Even the POTF2 version's head sculpt stands out, it stands out on the VC version as well. It looks almost EXACTLY like the Muppet head used on set and it's a near work of art. No smudges or smears I can notice. No problem moving any joints either. The outfit is in red, with black gloves, boots, belt and vest. Real simple. Now he isn't very tall, but he is properly scaled to other 3.75 inch figures. He shouldn't be as tall as Vader or Anakin, but is slightly smaller than Luke and 3PO. Posing him for photos was easy! For the one in which he's kneeling I had to lean him on the back wall. But he doesn't need a stand if you keep him loose, and he has incredible balance, something some VC figures with ball socketed hips don't have.

Of course he is essential to your collection. He doesn't have a lot of dialog in ROTJ but for any Endor space battle displays he is required. You can find 1.0 VC versions for over $130 on card and about $30 loose. But stick to the one coming out and preorder on either Amazon, Big Bad Toy Store or Entertainment Earth and you can get him for standard retail price. While I griped about Endor Leia being an old figure who got repacked I'm okay here because he isn't a main character, but still needs to fit in vehicles which as you've seen he can do. So if you missed out, here's a second chance to get him!!
