Luke Skywalker VC Imperial Light Cruiser Review

Image
In  December of 2020, in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, we saw what would become one of the best scenes ever put to film in all of Star Wars: Luke Skywalker coming to rescue Grogu, and in turn helping Din Djarin, Fennec Shand, Cara Dune, Bo Katan-Kryze and Koska Reeves survive the Darktroopers. Collectors demanded a Luke Skywalker figure to capture this moment, and here we are a bit over 2 years later, and it's finally here! Although SH Figuarts did one first, Hasbro gives Imperial Light Cruiser Luke Skywalker his Hasbro debut in the Vintage Collection! This is a partial newly tooled figure. The chest, and neck ball joint come from VC 175. His legs, hands, and boots are all new sculpts. Sadly, Luke does NOT have the double barbell neck joint which allows better downward movement or the new ball jointed hips most of the newer figures have, which is a slight disappointment. He does have 16 POA, the biggest upgrade are swivel thighs that allow some better posing, as seen in

Is Star Wars 'Watered Down'?

Liam Neeson, who played Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace and most recently in the Obi-Wan miniseries said in a recent interview that he feels Star Wars has become "watered down". Naturally, this got people talking all over social media and YouTube. Well, here's my 1 cent opinion. In Mr Neeson's defense, there was a time when Star Wars projects came in 3 year increments. The OT was filmed in 1976, 1979 and 1982 for theatrical release in 1977, 1980 and 1983 respectively. The Prequels began filming in late 1997, 2000 and 2003 due to the advances in digital technology for release in 1999, 2002 and 2005. The gaps weren't just for technology advancements but also time to make story corrections and adjustments if needed. George Lucas did actually "make up things as he went along" if you want to be honest about it. But that time gave him chances to play with the outline he proposed. While he may have always had Vader being Luke's father in his mind, he d

Admiral Ackbar Kenner Figure Review

Image
At the end of Kenner's The Empire Strikes Back line, select figures had a sticker on it that had information about how you could get a figure from 20th Century Fox's upcoming release of Revenge of the Jedi Admiral Ackbar. At the tail end of 1982, and early 1983 there wasn't any internet sites that had set photos, and on the sticker was a drawing of Ackbar. Who was he? What did he do? Back then, nobody except George Lucas knew (and possibly Starlog magazine),  and he didn't really like talking before a movie he worked on came out. Ackbar has a double distinction: being the 1st ROTJ figure released, and being the top figure from that line alphabetically. One thing you will immediately notice on Ackbar compared to the previous Kenner figures is detail. The uniform sculpt, and his head and arm sculpts are very well done. It almost perfectly captures the onscreen Muppet used for Ackbar on screen (although I think the POTF2 version of Ackbar actually perfectly captured the

Bespin Guards Vintage Collection Review

Image
I co me across as someone who knows a lot about Star Wars characters. Well, more than most of my friends anyway. But there are those who know the names of every minor character in all of the Original Trilogy. Take the Bespin Guards, for instance. I just named them Guard 1 and Guard 2 when I was younger, and the names kinda stuck. But no, they had names. Back in 1987 West End Games gave everyone who was a background character a name, and fixed that whole Zuckuss and 4-LOM mess that Kenner accidentally created. Isdam Edian (VC 239) is clean shaven, and in the Kenner line appears as a senior officer due to his paint job. Helder Spinoza (VC 233) has the best mustache in Star Wars next to his boss, Lando Calrissian. So how do these figures fare? Well, that's what this review is for! Plus it's Super Bowl Sunday and I thought a quick 2 for 1 review would be nice since most of the focus is on the Eagles vs Chiefs. Both figures feature 15 POA (points of articulation), and both come wit

Wokepedia

Is Wookieepedia now Wokepedia? Well, yes. And before you jump down my throat, the people who run it are free to run it however they wish, as long as the information is accurate regarding their biography, personality and traits is correct. But, Wookieepedia has made up something, or rather one of their editors has. You see, on their LGBTQ+ page, they have Luke Skywalker on that list. The editor at Wookieepedia claims that in a Disney Canon short story that Luke felt "Romantic feelings towards a man.". However, an article from Bounding Into Comics exposes the truth: Wookieepedia is making things up. In a short story by writer Sam Maggs, Luke and a Rebel soldier named Sgt Reye Hollis fall into some ice on Hoth, and have to get out, but also stay warm at the same time. Hollis is distrustful of Luke since he has bought into some anti Jedi thoughts, which for some reason he has. In order to stay warm, Luke holds his hands and thinks of Tatooine, and this gives Hollis the strength

Vintage Collection Livestream Reveals and Pipeline Reveals

Image
Honestly, I had low expectations for the Vintage Collection when it came to Hasbro's livestream. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised, and also very surprised at what is coming down the pipeline! Also, no word on WHEN these items will be available for preorder. Admiral Piett has been a long awaited figure and honestly I like the new officer buck. It opens the door for many figures down the line: Tarkin, Krennic, Veers, Piett, Thrawn, Yularen, Andor ISB people, etc. The blaster pistol looks to be different, and I wonder if a holster could possibly be added, especially if they get to Krennic. Piett also has a removable hat, which is a nice touch!    Finally we get a ROTJ version of Darth Vader! And he is a clever repack from the neck down of the Dark Times Vader from the Obi-Wan series. This time he comes with a swappable right arm, re-enacting Luke's battle inflicted wound. Plus he comes with a 2 part removable helmet (I don't recall them saying the neck brace was r

Hasbro Livestream Black Series Reveals & Retro Pipeline Reveals

Image
Hasbro did a livestream last Wednesday and showed off a surprisingly scant few new reveals for the Black Series, but did add a new role play item which I have to admit looks fun! The first reveal is a Revenge of the Jedi poster Darth Vader figure which will be the Celebration London exclusive, and I think Hasbro did a good job with the paint apps as this Vader does resemble his poster image quite well. The Endor Rebel Trooper has a swappable face with a young Trooper and Nik Sant (is he really Captain Rex?!). I like this feature but I am not a fan of putting 6 inch figures on Kenner cards but this is the only chance Sixers have in 2023 of actually seeing what they're buying so I'll give them a pass. For now. Ki-Adi Mundi, along with Aayla Secura are Prequel era Jedi that just look good in the 6 inch line. There really aren't enough alien Jedi in the line, IMO. This is one figure I definitely want to grab. Clone Commander Jesse was cool in the VC, here he gets a little m
