Please No Disney Mara Jade

 It's a well known fact I dislike the sequels, which I refer to as the Disney Trilogy. But there is a movement in the fandom to make Mara Jade, who is the most popular Legends character, into existing in the Disney Canon. In Legends, Mara was a personal agent of the Emperor who thought she was the only agent of his until Thrawn informed her differently. We'd learn in Children of the Jedi, another Legends novel that she suspected Roganda Ismaren of being another agent of the Emperor. But she'd marry Luke, give birth to their son, Ben Skywalker and would go on to train Jaina Solo. Sadly, Mara would die by Jacen Solo, earning his title as Darth Caedus. So that's her Legends back story briefly summarized.

But putting her into the Disney Canon now just wouldn't fly. The Disney Trilogy is done. Was there a chance to put her in? Yes! Luke's exile would have been more believable if Ben Solo had murdered his wife, cementing his fall to the dark side. I could go on about my fan canon backstory of Luke and Mara having a kidnapped son but I'll save that for another post. But losing his son, his wife, his nephew and the Jedi Order he had built would, in my humble opinion, devastate Luke Skywalker. As the audience we could understand how that could have made Luke quit on the galaxy. But as I said, that time has passed.

Now could a character based off Mara Jade show up in a future Disney Plus series? That's an easy yes. If fan rumors are true this character could show up in the Ahsoka series, since Thrawn heavily features in that series, as does Ezra Bridger. Maybe this Mara type character was close to someone Ezra had killed (Governor Pryce, Brom Titus, random Stormtroopers take your pick. Ezra didn't directly kill Pryce, but Mara blamed Luke for Palpy's death. So she could blame Ezra for it). So yes, there could be a Disney version of Mara Jade coming our way if you believe the rumor that Favreau & Filoni are using the Ahsoka series to retell the Legends Thrawn Trilogy story. I don't, but that's also for another blog post. So please Disney, you ruined Han, Luke and Leia. Ruining Mara Jade would be the final straw.
