Leia, meet Qi'ra (No Spoilers)
In the most recent arc from the current Marvel Star Wars comics, a major crossover event, War of the Bounty Hunters (WOTBH) took place. Making her grand reappearance in the timeline was Qi'ra last seen in Solo talking to Maul. Since Maul is long dead at this point, Qi'ra runs the Crimson Dawn criminal organization. In the WOTBH, Qi'ra is able to acquire Han, still frozen in Carbonite, and auctions him off to the highest bidder, but of course Boba Fett gets him back and delivers him to Jabba. No spoilers so okay to read on.
But what of Qi'ra? Well in Star Wars issue 18, she finally meets the new love of Han's life, Leia. And needless to say, I'm glad it was Charles Soule writing this than Marvel's other Star Wars writers. She and Leia dance around each other quite well. Lando and soon Leia realize Qi'ra is playing a new game. That new game comes in the new Crimson Reign storyline, coming soon. Admittedly, I like Qi'ra as the villain here. While it would be even better if Han were out of Carbonite and interacting with her, this is Leia's time to get to know her.
But what I am really glad about is this sets up more Leia/Qi'ra moments in the future. They have a brief meeting but there will be more meetings. What game is Qi'ra playing? Will she help Lando and Chewie get into Jabba's Palace? How far will Crimson Dawn go? Will they help aid the Bothan spies near Endor? There are a lot of questions, and for now anyway, the current Marvel Star Wars comics are interesting again.
