1. Saelt-Marae/Yakface
Here we are, the top figure in the Vintage Collection. What makes this the top figure, you ask? Well, he never appeared on a film card in the Kenner line, only on a POTF card, and not even in the United States! Next to Vlix from the Droids line, Yakface, aka Saelt-Marae (his name came from West End Games around 1987). Also, Yakface checks off all the important boxes. World building, check. Background alien, check. Looks great, check. Sculpting and painting, check. 1st time on a Vintage Collection film card, yep! He only comes with a staff, but if he had come with a shot glass so he can share a drink with Ree-Yees, it would have been perfect. Speaking of perfection, Hasbro knocked this figure out of the park.
Coming in with 17 POA, Yakface is not only unique for having 2 neck joints, he is also the tallest figure made in the Vintage Collection (4.5 inches tall!). None of his joints are tight. He can easily be made to sit down, just be move on the dance floor with Oola, Leia or the trio of singers in Jabba's Palace, one of which might even be Boba Fett's lady friend (at that time). The sculpt and paint are perfect. Yes you read that right. Perfect. No smears or smudges in the paint. The sculpt looks better than the on screen costume used. It's one thing to see him on card, but once you open it up and take the figure out and hold him in your hands, you can see how good this figure is!
The only knock is he comes with only a staff, which he can only hold in his right hand. He should have, in my opinion, come with a glass. He is seen drinking on the sail barge after all! Another accessory is his cloth robe, which isn't removable but drapes well on the figure and does not limit his articulation at all. Not only is he a background alien character who has a few seconds of screen time, he is a world building figure. If the Vintage Collection has one big advantage over the Black Series it's the world building aspect. Yakface represents all that the VC stands for. He might get a 6 inch figure one day, but for now, this is the only way to get him. To get him on a POTF card, you needed to buy the HasLab Jabba's Sail Barge, which included him on that card, and with his POTF coin! But, having him on a Return of the Jedi card just feels right.
