Star Wars in TV Shows
Currently, I'm watching one of my favorite shows, That 70's Show as the main characters see Star Wars. It's one of my favorite episodes of that show, and shows just how popular a movie it really is. Heck, Star Wars launched the Summer Blockbuster, plus movie toys, books, comics and other merchandise. Most popular TV shows today have, or have yet to parody Star Wars. So which ones are my favorite? I've already mentioned one of them already!
That 70's Show
Eric Forman and his friends go see Star Wars, while Kelso, the biggest idiot on the show called the Han/Leia romance. A dream sequence with Eric as Luke, his father Red as Ben Kenobi and Eric's girlfriend Donna as Leia is quite memorable "Jedi dumbass!" The best line at the end is Red watching the movie and saying "Eric liked this movie?! That kid's on dope!" Suddenly an explosion and laser blast shows onscreen, and Red suddenly likes the movie. As a bonus, all of Eric Forman's Star Wars toys on the show were all from the 1990's not the 1970's.
Family Guy
When Family Guy did episodes based off the Original Trilogy, fans geeked out in a major way! Not only is it quotable, but memorable for guest stars, like Carrie Fisher who voiced Peter's boss as Mon Mothma. Stewie as Vader, Peter as Han Solo and "The only actor who's career isn't ruined by this movie!" Plus Chris as Luke, Lois as Leia, Brian as Chewbacca and Meg as the trash compactor monster, space slug and Sarlaac Pit. Owning these on physical media is necessary in my humble opinion. They even made toys for these episodes! It's a spoof, made and written by fans, and it's worth going back and rewatching over and over again!
Robot Chicken
The stop motion animated show using toys is a pop culture hit, going back to it's origins as Twisted Toyfare Theater for the late Toyfare magazine. Their Star Wars specials utilized some of the actors across all 6 movies (at the time), with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane stealing the shows as the voice of Papa Palpatine.
Big Bang Theory
The best Star Wars BBT episode was the Star Wars Day episode where Sheldon's childhood hero Professor Proton dies, and his funeral is on May 4th. PP, played by comic legend Bob Newhart, shows up as an Obi-Wan ghost while giving him advice on how to cope and move on. Mark Hamill would appear as himself and marry Sheldon and Amy while James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader took Sheldon on a adventure which included pranking Carrie Fisher.
These are just some of my favorites. I might cover more at a later date.
