First Look HasLab Cantina
PSYCHE! And now my review of the new VC Merrin action figure...just kidding! If the Cantina hadn't arrived at a proper time, I would have published my Merrin review. But I have the photos for her finished. This will NOT be an in depth look at the entire Cantina, just some quick looks, and my early impressions.
It arrived on Saturday, and it is aptly named on the outer box:
It is DEFINITELY a dream item for me, and no doubt many others. Like The Ghost, it comes with this outer box, and an inner shipping box to protect the main box, which arrived in perfect condition. This will not be a review of the constructed Cantina, as I don't have my display space ready, and that has been due to the summer heat and my blackout curtains cost more than I had anticipated, as I have to get them custom made. Sigh. But, I'll do my review slowly, and I anticipate doing a full review later this year once I have some space cleared out. A temporary option may be my current display table, but I doubt it could support the full playset. But that's another topic for another day.
1. Internal shipping box
I removed the cardboard and plastic corner protection materials to get these shots. Since it only weighed about 18 pounds, it was easy to move around. It certainly wasn't the workout that hauling The Ghost was, but this one gave me a great small workout. That inner box also has the SW VIN DREAM title on the box as well, I had to be very careful cutting this open, because I have a bad habit of not closing the box cutter after using it. No bloody fingers this time!
2. Main Box
Front
Back
Sides (left and right side of box)
Top and bottom of the main box
I was very impressed by the figure photos on the front, top, and bottom of the box. Back in the day, Kenner ships had the drawn images on the sides and back of the box, and it's recreated here. Also, I never had a Star Wars playset as a kid, so I can't tell you if this replicates Kenner playsets, box wise. Buy I definitely like the Greedo and Han images above, and I will always stand by Han shooting first. Of course, we are waiting on Ben Kenobi, Han and Chewbacca to get released, which will be later this year. But, the main box had to be opened...
3. Opened Main Box
There are 5 boxes inside. 2 large boxes, 1 medium box, 1 small box and the box the figures come in. The instructions are on top. I didn't open these in any particular order, and yes, the boxes are numbered 1-5.
1st Large Box
Some walls, and the sticker sheet. This appears to be the outer walls of the Cantina.
2nd Large Box
This appears to be the main entrance to the inside of the Cantina.
Small Box
This is the pipes, and other drink dispensers for the main bar.
Medium Box
Here are the alcoves, and more of the main bar area. Now, I have only opened these boxes, I haven't unpacked them. That's coming later!
Figure Box
If you got a Cantina to keep the figures in mint condition, you're in luck, as Hasbro took extra precautions to keep them safe. A thin layer of wax paper was added to the top of the card, and I have to say they look great!
4. Included Figures:
Wuher
Wuher has his 2nd figure ever, the first since the POTF2, and this is likely the only way you'll be able to get a modern upgrade, although the POTF2 Wuher isn't a bad figure. My first thought is the head sculpt, and dirtier paint apps are amazingly well done. Plus, Wuher has the coolest VC Number HAS 007. He likes his martini's shaken, not stirred. And once I can have some booze again, he'll shake up a Vesper for me. He comes with an extra hand, cup and rifle.
Nabrun Leids
Admittedly, I really am not wild about this figure. Why? No holsters. I don't plan to have him use them. He comes with a cup, 2 blasters and an extra air hose. This is the only figure I may hesitate to open, at least for now. For those who wanted this figure, I do expect him to get released on another card someday, it just won't be anytime soon.
Greedo
I have to admit: I REALLY don't want to open this figure. Why? Because I expect Greedo to come on his standard Kenner card. I like this card image better than the original. Greedo has a holster, blaster and a cup/can/thermos. He is incredibly well sculpted, head to toe. Now, I am opening him, but may wait on the ANH Han so he can get blasted. And then have Han shoot him first!
Senni Tonnika
Senni Tonnika is what we would call in the Southern United States "A tall drink of water". She's very tall! She comes with 2 blasters, no holsters, an extra hand and a cup. But the card is absolutely perfect! It's going to be a damn shame to open this figure, but I've had the Tonnika's on my wish lists for a very long time. I can see in the packaging the amazing detail on her hair braids, head sculpt and the body sculpt looks amazing. Now, this set is the only time she'll be available. However, I could see this buck being used if Hasbro ever wanted to update Aurra Sing, and that's a figure that deserves an updated version! But, this is Senni's time to shine. She's an amazing action figure, and well worth the wait. And she's one of the reasons I bought this HasLab in the first place!
Brea Tonnika
Brea is the figure I absolutely can't wait to open, and she may be the first one I do open. I have stated many times that Hasbro could use this buck again, for possibly a Mara Jade, or Dani from the old Marvel Comics run. Of course a Carbonite Dani came with the Razor Crest, but I've already talked enough about her. Brea has the same incredible head sculpt detail that Senni has, and the same accessories: 2 blasters, an extra hand, and a cup. I do love the card image as well. Like Senni, this is the only way to get Brea, so if you didn't back this, you missed out.
