The Last Command Set; SWS VC Final Four
Before I get into the topic in hand: Happy Easter!
For the last Imperial March event of the month of March, Hasbro revealed the tan HK-87 and Darktrooper for the VC, and a Clonetrooper and Battle Droid 2 pack. But forget that because Hasbro also revealed The Last Command 4 pack for the Black Series! And yes, I'm excited about it! Ever since I started reading the original Thrawn Trilogy, I hoped there would one day be figures from those novels. Of course I envisioned them as Kenner style figures, and while Mara Jade has had several figures made of her since 1998's POTF2 line, we have also gotten a few Grand Admiral Thrawn figures since 1998 as well. But there hasn't been a figure of Joruus C'baoth and the clone Luke (Luuke Skywalker) made until now. I'll break down the figures, and also give reasons as to why any fan of the One True Expanded Universe should get this set, even if you aren't a *Filthy Sixer! (Writers note: the term Filthy Sixer is a joke phrase to describe Black Series collectors and isn't meant to mock them. Just having fun with them!)
LUKE SKYWALKER
This is a repack of the Death Star Duel Luke, which was one of my top Black Series figures of 2023. This time, Luke has the down flap on his tunic. According to the comic adaptation drawn by the late, great Edvin Biuchovic. As the duel progresses, Luke does toss the his tunic off. So for those who want a Black Series Luke to have the flap down, here us your Luke!
My biggest fear was the Heir To The Empire Luke being repacked in this set. But, I'm glad a great Luke figure was put into this set. However in the comic Luke doesn't wear his black glove, so from that issue Luke is not comic book accurate, but he did wear this outfit to the Mount Tantiss throne room. Luke comes with his lightsaber, which has a removable blade.
MARA JADE
Honestly, I wasn't thrilled with the Comic Pack Mara Jade, at first. I felt she should have been given either a flat heel or shorter heel at the boots. Mara is a re-use of the Black Series Jaina Solo buck, which was also used for the Black Series Dr Aphra. Mara comes with a not comic accurate blaster and her purple bladed lightsaber, neither of which she used in the comic adaptation. Thr head sculpt has won me over though. I really like it! The lightsaber Mara should have come with was Leia's green bladed lightsaber, but I guess Hasbro didn't want to make an all new one, as that's the one Mara used in the final battle.
The biggest difference is a swappable hooded head, something many Black Series and fans of The One True Expanded Universe had wanted. With the comic pack Mara going for higher prices, it's worth it to get this set as it is the only Mara Jade you'll need!
LUUKE SKYWALKER
If you read the novel or comic adaptation of The Last Command, Luke and later Mara duel with a cloned Luke Skywalker, named Luuke. He never speaks a word as he was created by an insane cloned Jedi Master. I don't know if this is an all new head to toe sculpt as the boots are definitely from Bespin Luke (or Jedi Anakin from ROTS), and the upper body could be from Padawan Obi-Wan or Jabim Obi-Wan. But the head sculpt is amazing! If Luke was to go insane, that's how he'd look.
Luuke cokes with the Skywalker lightsaber, which Luke gives to Mara at the end of the novel/comic adaptation. He also comes with a blue robe, and is a near perfect interpretation from The Last Command comic adaptation. I could see Hasbro using this buck again to make a future EU Luke, or better yet for Ben Skywalker!
JORUUS C'BAOTH
The clone of Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth went completely insane and added another u sound to the end of his first name. What sane person would do that?! Anyway this appears to be an all newly tooled figure. He has the He-Man type chest as seen on the HTTE novel cover, but in the Last Command adaptation he's more thin than muscular, same with the HTTE adaptation. C'baoth comes with swappable Force Lightning hands, and a red bladed lightsaber which of course he never used.
From top to bottom, the figures are seeded lowest to highest. Rey is 4th, Anakin is 3rd, Bespin Luke is 2nd and Ben Skywalker is first. And the coin that decides the fate is the C-3PO Millennium Minted Coin, which is gold colored:
Same rule: higher seed is Heads, which is Threepio, and Tales is the Star Wars logo. But, for the Championship the winner is the best of 3 flips. So here we go:
