Han Solo VC 124
Unpopular opinion: but I actually liked Solo: A Star Wars Story. Of course there are a few things I would like to change, but it is a good way to kill some time, and I thought Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover did an excellent job as Han Solo & Lando Calrissian, respectively. But, what about the toys? 5 POA was the rage for the 3.75 scale, but the VC had come back at this time, but all we got from Solo would come later on in 2018 (a big mistake by Hasbro in my opinion): Han, Lando, Rangetrooper (aka Namathtrooper for wearing a fur coat) & the Wal-Mart exclusive Mimban Stormtrooper. The 5 POA got Val, Rio Durant and Tobias Beckett (as did the Black Series), but also got Qi'ra in her Kessel outfit. Neither the VC or Black Series got that figure, yet. No Dryden Vos in the VC either. But they did make Han Solo (VC 124), and that's who I'm covering here today.
Now the first impression on looking at Han is that he is well done for 2018 standards. He has the elite articulation for the time (16 POA) but moving his lower legs is a problem with the ball socket hips. He has no waist articulation but instead a mid-chest ball joint, which is hidden by the jacket, which is nice. More on that later. While it is a pain in the ass to get him into a Millennium Falcon cockpit, it can be done. It just takes some time. The head sculpt isn't bad, neither is the details on Han's jacket! But there is one problem, and while Hasbro has accurately scaled Alden's height into this figure, he's still too short. Harrison Ford is over 6 feet tall, while Alden is around 5'9. This figure is scaled to someone at that height. Han should be taller than Jedi Luke, not the same height (see picture below).
Han has his blaster, which stays in the holster so that's a plus! You can remove his jacket, and maybe use it as a vest for another figure but he looks ridiculous without it on, so I don't recommend removing it. His paint apps are well done, no weird eyes, no smears on the pant stripes (which are done correctly, unlike Bespin Han). Now, sadly you can't swap a Harrison Ford Han head on this figure, which is a drawback as Han wore this outfit several times in the Marvel Comics 2015 monthly series. If you want this figure, it goes for anywhere from $25-$60 on card, or try your local Ollie's (if you have one) and see if they have one there. If so, you're out around $10. Not bad.
Overall, this is a decent figure. I got extras to make a custom Finn, but the neck ball joints don't work. But honestly, this Han's head sculpt makes for a possible Jacen or Anakin Solo custom. Alden's head sculpt actually looks like Harrison Ford & Carrie Fisher's child (although Adam Driver definitely looks like their biological child too). However most of this figure is repurposed for the upcoming Endor Han Solo figure, which doesn't make much sense IMO. Oddly enough, this is the last brand new Han Solo sculpt. And it may be the last one we get for a while, sadly.
