VC Nien Nunb Review

Image
Nien Nunb in my opinion is one of the coolest looking characters in all of Star Wars. Disney even had him surviving until the Battle of Exegol where Wokepedia says he was killed offscreen, but since we didn't see him die, he's still alive. But he's also in the new wave of Vintage Collection figures, plus he's in Return of the Jedi, so why not talk about the one figure you need to have a full ROTJ experience?! Full disclaimer: this is the 1.0 VC Nien Nunb, and I was incredibly fortunate to find him, as he came out as the line began winding down. He was so hard to find that when I saw a few years ago what he went for on card I was angry for even opening him up! Another disclaimer: he comes with 2 weapons, a pistol and a blaster rifle but I lost the rifle ages ago. But all the stats are the same for either release, but I will show photos of the weapons, and a head shot of the 2023 version (images below from Galactic Figures). Nien has 14 POA, and for a sculpt that is 14 ...

Figure Sources I'm Not Burned Out On & 1 That I Am

Recently, on the BanthaSkull collecting site, Chris, one of the writers, wrote about VC figure sources he was getting burned out on. I get it, Hasbro does a lot of repacks and repaints of some figures and it can wear out VC collectors. Chris was burned out on ARC Trropers/Clone Commanders who used the VC 45 sculpt, and Battle Droids using the VC 78 sculpt. I'll post a link to his article at the end of this post. Now, I do have something that does burn me out regarding the VC. And I will get to that, but the purpose of this post is what I'm NOT burned out on. Of course anything overdone can burn me out, but I wanted to make something positive, although the end of this post will be the "negative". But I want to focus on what Hasbro could go back to the well on when it comes to the Vintage Collection. 1. Mandalorians 2022 was the big year for Mandalorian figures! The Death Watch Trooper, Mauldalorian, and Death Watch Airborne Trooper highlighted the year for the VC, ...

Black Series Mara Jade Review

Image
I had been wondering when, or if I would begin to cover Black Series figures on my blog. While I am a die-hard Vintage Collection supporter and collector, I can appreciate the 6 inch Black Series line of figures. There is more detail in the sculpts, and more articulation. The downside is the price, and the occasional droopy lightsaber blade. But one thing they do make is a line of figures based off both the modern comic books, and those from Legends. Their comic book like has made figures like Leia Organa from the 2015 comic line (who will be in one of the photographs I post here), Kir Kanos from Crimson Empire and Mara Jade from Dark Force Rising. So for my first ever Black Series review, I chose Mara Jade! Mara Jade is packaged in the plastic free packaging, but the front of her box depicts Mara from Dark Horse's adaptation of the novel Dark Force Rising. The box can be opened to reveal a picture of the figure and some biographical material. I have a couple other comic book lin...

Are There Too Many Order 66 Survivors?

"Luke, when gone am I, the last of the Jedi you will be! The Force runs strong in your family, pass on what you have learned!" Yoda spoke these words to Luke Skywalker just before he died in Return of the Jedi. For many years, fans have speculated, and George Lucas did confirm that in the OT era, there were only 3 Jedi in the galaxy who were still practicing the Jedi way: Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Luke Skywalker. Until 2005, where we see the Jedi Knights taken down by Order 66 we had no clue how the Jedi fell. But thanks to the Prequels we know how the Jedi Order fell, and just how many Jedi were left when the Clone Wars began (10,000). We are led to believe that 9,998 Jedi died during the Clone Wars and implementation of Order 66. But Legends and even Disney Canon have had characters survive both the Clone Wars and Order 66. Quinlan Vos did in both universes, other Legends Jedi like Tholme, Tr'a S'aa, K'khruk, Tao, Dass Jennir, Beldorian, Jax Pavan, Qu-Rahm, Ferus Oli...

Han Solo VC 124

Image
Unpopular opinion: but I actually liked Solo: A Star Wars Story. Of course there are a few things I would like to change, but it is a good way to kill some time, and I thought Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover did an excellent job as Han Solo & Lando Calrissian, respectively. But, what about the toys? 5 POA was the rage for the 3.75 scale, but the VC had come back at this time, but all we got from Solo would come later on in 2018 (a big mistake by Hasbro in my opinion): Han, Lando, Rangetrooper (aka Namathtrooper for wearing a fur coat) & the Wal-Mart exclusive Mimban Stormtrooper. The 5 POA got Val, Rio Durant and Tobias Beckett (as did the Black Series), but also got Qi'ra in her Kessel outfit. Neither the VC or Black Series got that figure, yet. No Dryden Vos in the VC either. But they did make Han Solo (VC 124), and that's who I'm covering here today. Now the first impression on looking at Han is that he is well done for 2018 standards. He has the elite artic...

The Last Command 30 Years Later

Image
I am late to the party for the 30th anniversary of the release of The Last Command. But, I didn't finish the novel until early June of 1993, and now it's early June of 2023. So what better time to go over the conclusion to what many today consider the true sequel trilogy, and how it set the table for future Star Wars adventures to follow! Instead of a recap of the story, I want to go over how the main characters develop as the trilogy goes on. Not just the new characters who were introduced, but also Han, Leia and Luke as well. Even if you're reading this, but haven't read the original Thrawn Trilogy it should be easy to follow along. The characters I'll cover from the novels will be Grand Admiral Thrawn, Joruus C'baoth, Talon Karrde and Mara Jade. Grand Admiral Thrawn In the 1st chapter of Heir to the Empire, Thrawn shows he's a tactical genius. His interest in art is what helps him understand his enemies. But over the course of the trilogy, the non-hum...
