Vintage Collection Cassian Andor (Andor) Review
Toyetic is a word that actually best describes Star Wars. Heck, Star Wars gave birth to the action figure craze that those of us who grew up in the 1980's know all to well. The most toyetic film in the OT was easily Return of the Jedi (in my opinion), with A New Hope a close second due to the Cantina patrons. But for the Andor series, it really isn't toyetic. Now, I'm not knocking the show. This is a different type of Star Wars adventure as the focus isn't on Mandalorians or Jedi, but the origin of the Rebel Alliance. After seeing the Black Series figures, I'm glad the VC won't have much for Andor. But honestly the Phase II Clonetrooper will be on an Andor card, and that may be the best selling figure since collectors want to badly Troop build this figure. But I don't have that one. I do have the Cassian Andor figure as seen in the Andor series. And if you think this is a lot of word salad, you're right. But honestly, this isn't a bad figure.
Now Cassian has the new standard 17 POA and thanks to the new ball jointed hips he can achieve a lot of action poses. The lower body is hindered by the trench coat, so he can't exactly sit in a vehicle and if you keep him loose a stand is recommended, but honestly I left him in an action pose for a while in between shots and he was fine. A collecting site recommended the stand, I don't think you need one. As my sample had not too tight joints, he's good on his own. If a leg joint is loose, use a stand. There aren't a lot of paint apps, so no smears or streaks. Hasbro is getting better with both major scales and should be applauded for this. The figure is well sculpted, head to toe.
Speaking of the head sculpt: it's amazing! As seen, you can do a head swap with the Rogue One Cassian, but since I have nerve issues I couldn't fit the old head on the new body, but the new Cassian head is a perfect fit on the old Cassian figure. See the picture below. I was able to get a decent picture of how they both look. The only accessory Cassian comes with is a blaster pistol, but sadly he has no holster for it. Fortunately it is a perfect fit for his right hand, as you can see in the photos above.
Now, is he essential for your collection? Sadly, no. I doubt Hasbro will make a lot of figures from Andor (Deedra and Luthen would be my top choices, I doubt Mon Mothma would sell but it makes me want to find another ROTS Mon Mothma to use for this era). But if enough Andor figures sell, maybe Hasbro will make a couple more. Now this isn't the only Cassian figure, another in his Imperial Disguise is one you might want since that could cross over into any Rogue One or possibly Mandalorian displays if you want to be creative. But if you want to upgrade your older VC Cassian with a head swap, go for it! I won't go into a rant about this being an all new tooled figure, but is it good? Yes. But do you really need this one, no. But do keep an eye open for the Imperial Disguise Cassian, that should be one to get.
