Kenner POTF Imperial Dignitary
I am not going to lie. This is a boring figure. He's just....boring. So how to make this seem fun is my dilemma. But I'm up to the task! But he does fit quite well in the Kenner era as he is a different figure, and looks a little like an alien without actually being an alien.
Let's get the general info out of the way first. He has the standard 5 POA, and a simple paint application with well sculpted robes and a large hat. He is one of the few Kenner figures to not come with an accessory and as you can see in the photo he couldn't hold one anyway. The paint apps are well done, especially on the face and head. Whoever sculpted this figure did a very good job!
Now onto just who this person is. His name is Sim Aloo, and I'll use the Legends description since in that he was implied as being Force sensitive and held an important (in his mind anyway) position in the Empire. He is human, and appears to show the physical effects of years being in close proximity to Darth Sidious (Palpy) and that explains why he looks like a walking skeleton.
There are 5 advisors to Palpatine who are seen in ROTJ. Only 3 have figures made, with Sim being the first. The other 2 came out around 2002-2004 and if you came into my local Wal-Mart at the time they gave you those other dignitaries for free. That's how I got those versions, Wal-Mart manager just gave them to me, LOL! Kidding aside, they didn't sell. Neither did old Sim here.
Now he didn't sell in 1985, after all the line was dying at that point. I saw Sim in 1986 when Toy's R Us opened up, along with a couple other POTF figures I wished I had grabbed (R2-D2 with lightsaber being one of them). On today's secondary market he goes on card for $2500, but you can find him on card for $250, loose he runs about $250, but you might find a reasonable seller on eBay or at a convention. He is not really essential for your collection, kids didn't want him then, and probably don't now. But adult collectors constantly want an updated Sim Aloo. The only way he gets made is as part of a Death Star playset or HasLab. Otherwise he's warming pegs like he did in 1985-1987. Images from Galactic Figures.
