Kenner Zuckuss & 4-LOM Review

For many years, fans were told by Kenner that the insect looking droid was named Zuckuss and the other bug looking guy with a coat was named 4-LOM. And by many years I mean 1980-1987. But in 1987 a funny thing happened. No, not just the TV show Sledge Hammer!, but West End Games did a supplement for the 10th anniversary of Star Wars and it would forever change the characters as we knew them. Hammerhead, Walrus Man, they got names. So did Snaggletooth. Jabba's Palace denizens got names too. Yakface, Squid Head, all names. Oh, and so did Zuckuss and 4-LOM. All they did was swap names. 4-LOM is more a droid name than a flesh and blood named person, right? Same with Zuckuss being more a flesh and blood person name than a droid name. I don't know how the naming controversy happened just how it was solved! Writers over the years would use these 2 as partners, so for their Kenner review here are the last 2 bounty hunter reviews: 4-LOM & Zuckuss! I'll address them by their Kenner names while the review photos show the real name. Got it? Good, on with the review!!

Starting off with Zuckuss, he is a retool of the C-3PO buck but with a new head sculpt and a neat paint job. The paint job isn't quite screen accurate but this was 1980 and it does a fine job. To make the figure "pop" they painted the midsection silver, which again is good for 1980.

The head sculpt is excellent, and one of the best ones Kenner did, especially on the eye detail. He comes with a large blaster rifle as his only accessory and it fits best in his right hand as seen in the photo. But don't expect it to look good if you extend his arm, he might be better posed with a Stormtrooper blaster or other blaster pistol. At least this accessory is hard to lose since it's large and easy to find if it falls. Overall, not a bad figure!

Now onto 4-LOM. Kenner did a wonderful job on the head sculpt again. A new feature would be added to this figure with a leather material for his robe. He wears a harness on top. Underneath the robe he has sculpted on clothes that are not screen accurate. Unlike Zuckuss this is a brand new mold, and it doesn't look like it was used for any other figures but I need to take a closer look as some parts may have been used on another figure.

He comes with a new blaster rifle and it looks like the one he had onscreen. So the weapon mold was also all new. There isn't much to his paint apps except for his head. As these are part of the highest costs when making an action figure it makes sense to only paint the head and not the rest of the figure. While this isn't close to screen accurate, for 1980 this was as good as it gets.
