VC ROTJ 40th Anniversary Wish List
The Sixers, aka Black Series fans will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi the same way they did for ANH & ESB: getting the figures with some updated head sculpts on Kenner style cards. For the VC fans does it stink to high Heaven? Yes! But, let the Sixers have their cake, but save some pieces for the Vintage Collection!
Since it's 2021, and lines take anywhere from a year to 18 months to plan out, why not start now?! Now, here's the best part: no need to sculpt any new figures! Hasbro should like this, no new costs! While I would love a new Tessek, aka Squid Head, that ain't happening anytime soon. Before I get to the figures, we need some deluxe items first:
1. Jabba the Hutt. We got a good one in 2010 that now goes for a small fortune. This also came with Oola and Salacious Crumb. While Disney shies away on scantily clad female figures like Oola and Leia in her slave outfit, they can either be left out OR made an exclusive to online stores. But Jabba needs his dais, his hook and Crumb. Needs to be on the Kenner box, too.
2. Speeder Bike with Biker Scout. Repack the 3.75 Black Series Biker Scout with the 2012 Speeder Bike. Really simple, and cost effective. Put this in a specially made Kenner box.
3. Jedi Spirits. We got Anakin in 2007, so doing the same for Obi-Wan and Yoda should be easy, just paint them differently and make sure it's in a Kenner box.
Now onto the main line figures:
1. Han Solo with Carbonite block. Packed in the Jabba's Palace Playset, some collectors don't want to open this from the box. Here, on a single card, collectors could be happy.
2. Ree-Yees. Same as Han, a single card not encased in a box is a popular choice. Plus it's a good figure.
3. Amanaman. Just take the Fan's Choice winning figure and slap it on a Kenner card. This won't be one that gets opened much, if at all.
4. Weequay Skiff Master. This figure goes for a lot on eBay. Needs to be repacked.
5. Weequay Skiff Guard. Same as the Skiff master. He's a car payment loose on eBay.
6. Yakface. You need Ree-Yees to have his drinking buddy, and this is my favorite VC figure of all time.
7 & 8. Rebel Commando. Repacked both the light and dark skinned figures, as they are worth a fortune online. Also add other ethnicities like Hasbro had done for the Rebel Fleet Troopers. This could be done as a troop pack on Hasbro Pulse.
9. Logray. We got Wicket already, but the Ewoks need their medicine man. Have to have at least 1 Ewok. Although they could repaint this figure to make Chief Chirpa.
10. Nien Nunb. Lando needs his Millennium Falcon co-pilot and this figure is another bank breaker online.
Now, to 4 figures for the Fan Channel Wave:
1. VC 175. While I love Jedi Luke, they need to fix his eyes, as they look like he's giving side glances and not looking straight ahead.
2. VC 115. The Emperor's Wrath version of Darth Vader is a popular choice for collectors and is another rare figure from the 1st run of the VC that fetches a fortune on eBay.
3. VC 200. This time give Palpatine the calm looking head sculpt.
4. VC 114. Prune Face may have only fixed the Rebel Alliance copier machines (from Robot Chicken, LOL!) but he also goes for a high price. Repacking this figure makes sense and gives this wave 2 heroes and 2 villains.
So there. Return of the Jedi is in my humble opinion the most toyetic of the OT. The Black Series will get the better treatment, but these repacks would make a lot of Vintage Collection collectors very, very happy.
