The Best & Worst of 2023 Star Wars Collecting

Image
Since it's literally the last day of 2023, or if you are my friend Jason, aka Middle Aged Kiwi Man Collecting Star Wars Figures from YouTube and BanthaSkull, it's already the 1st day of 2024 in New Zealand when he's reading this. Happy New Year, Jason! To wrap a bow on 2023, how was it for collectors of the Vintage Collection and Black Series? Well, pretty good actually! While the last 2 years have been mostly lamenting, and fuming, not so much this year! Both of Hasbro's main collector lines were great, but sadly the kid focused Mission Fleet will soon fly up to that big toy box in Heaven, and without any Leia or Rey figures. But you can find Mission Fleet at Ollie's, I  managed to get Vader's TIE, Luke's X-Wing with Luke and Grogu, plus Moff Gideon's Outlander TIE Fighter, all for $15 total. So this post will be my best of 2023, and I'll end it on what I'm looking forward to, and hope we get in 2024, which is another big anniversary year, hig...

Grand Admiral Thrawn VC Review

Image
In June of 1991, I bought Heir To The Empire in a grocery store, and immediately began reading it, while I was supposed to read Little Women and Tom Sawyer for summer reading. Besides Mara Jade, there was one character that had me hooked: Grand Admiral Thrawn. I wanted a Kenner version of him, and Mara ASAP! Fast forward to 1998, and both Thrawn and Mara came in the POTF2 Expanded Universe wave, which is still my single favorite wave of Star Wars figures ever. But then Disney bought Lucasfilm, and Thrawn was tossed into Legends. But thankfully, Dave Filoni liked the character, and brought him into Disney Canon for Star Wars Rebels, with Thrawn creator Timothy Zahn writing 2 new Thrawn trilogies! Thrawn is officially the 1st VC figure from Star Wars Rebels, as he is on the Rebels card. In the picture above, you can tell he is a shrunken down version of the Black Series Thrawn. His buck is a slight retool of the new Imperial Officer figure which debuted with Piett. He has the stand...

Black Series Jedi Luke Review

Image
Hasbro has celebrated the 40th Anniversaries of the Original Trilogy in style, well for the Black Series anyway. Only this year did the VC get in on the action. However, Hasbro has once again put a 6 inch Luke Skywalker on a Kenner card for the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, and I have to say it's one that you must own! So for a change of pace, I'll cover another Black Series figure on my blog. Is it the best Black Series figure of the year? Read on to find out! First, the card. When Hasbro released Endor Luke for the VC in 2010, they used the original 1983 Kenner card that showed Luke in Jabba's Palace. They made a correction later on and made a new card image. For the Black Series, Hasbro did the same as they had done in 2012. The card is Jabba's Palace Luke, but the figure is Luke as he appeared in Palpy's Throne Room. Below, I have Luke with other Black Series figures for height comparison, and of course one with Mara Jade!  As for the figure itself, it...

The Choice

Finally posting this fan fiction! It's my retelling of the Book Of Boba Fett Finale, and instead of the 1st 2 chapters, I'm publishing the 1st 4! Just have 2 more chapters and the Prolouge to write, and the conclusion will come sometime next year. Disclaimers: I don't own the characters and am only writing this for entertainment purposes, and am not seeking financial compensation for this work. In the comments I have notes about the characters.  Dramatis Personae Luke Skywalker Grogu Din Djarin Boba Fett Fennec Shand Black Krrsantan Mara Jade Pelli Motto Ren Xanatos (Ren's enforcer) Ardella (Ren's enforcer) Komat Cad Bane Prologue Ren sat on his throne, and was attempting to calm the rage growing at the holographic image before him. The Pyke Syndicate representative had told him of what had happened to the Marshall of Freetown on Tattooine. Not the leader of the syndicate, but a lackey tells him this. A lackey! And to top it off, without coming to him...
